Ticketmaster announced it caught scalpers holding thousands of illegal tickets for Harry Styles upcoming 30-show residency at Madison Square Garden. The company says it canceled those purchases and will sell the tickets again at original prices under $130. But many fans are not buying the explanation. They see this move as a public relations play after a federal jury found Ticketmaster’s parent company guilty of running a harmful monopoly just days earlier.

‘You Caught You?’ Jack Antonoff Questions Ticketmaster’s Scalper Announcement

Jack Antonoff, the 13-time Grammy winner and famous music producer, responded to Ticketmaster’s statement on X with a sharp question. He wrote “you caught you?” directly replying to the company’s announcement. This response quickly gained attention from fans who felt the same frustration.

Antonoff’s comment pointed at what many believe is Ticketmaster’s own role in creating the scalping problem. Fans celebrated his willingness to call out the ticketing giant publicly.

“Yes Jack,” one account replied alongside a GIF of Leonardo DiCaprio clapping.

“Jack you are so incredibly messy and I am living for it. Yes king call their a**es out,” another fan wrote.

The timing of Ticketmaster’s announcement raised immediate suspicion. Just last week, a federal jury found that Live Nation, Ticketmaster’s parent company, violated antitrust laws and overcharged fans by $1.72 per ticket. This legal loss put the company under intense scrutiny.

Ticketmaster’s Plan to Resell Harry Styles NYC Concert Tickets at Face Value

Saumil Mehta, Global President of Ticketmaster, shared the news in a detailed post on X on April 22, 2026. He explained that the company discovered scalpers using multiple accounts and fake identities to buy tickets beyond set limits.

“We caught scalpers using multiple accounts and fake identities to try to get around ticket limits and resell tickets for profit. We’ve canceled those tickets, none of which had been transferred to fans, and we are working with the tour to release them back to fans at the original price.”

Mehta said the original ticket prices were set by Styles and his team to keep shows affordable. The breakdown shows:

  • 19% of tickets priced at $50
  • 77% under $95
  • 100% under $130 including fees

Ticketmaster stated that no real fan accounts were affected by the cancellations. People who bought tickets directly through Ticketmaster, or received transferred or resale tickets, will keep their purchases. Shows outside New York City are not part of this situation.

Fans Can Request Tickets Starting April 30

Fans who want to get the reclaimed Harry Styles NYC concert tickets must follow a specific request process. The submission window opens on April 30 at 12 pm EDT and closes on May 1 at 5 pm EDT.

Anyone can submit a request, but fans who do not yet have tickets to the NYC shows will get priority. Each person can request up to four tickets for two different shows, making a total of eight tickets. Ticketmaster will charge the payment method provided only if the request gets fulfilled.

If selected, fans will receive a confirmation email with seat details by May 8 at 11:59 pm EDT.

Social Media Erupts with Accusations of PR Stunt

The response on social media showed deep distrust toward Ticketmaster. Many fans directly called the scalper announcement a cover-up after the recent fraud verdict.

“They don’t care about scalpers when they allow insane resale prices on their site….. obvious PR after getting exposed for fraud last week….” one user posted.

Another fan pointed out the company’s own role in price inflation.

“They are the scalpers. They are the ones driving the market up on tickets,” a user wrote.

Some fans gave credit to Styles himself rather than Ticketmaster.

“Harry saw someone was being shady for the ticket prices & immediately intervened he would always be fan-friendly,” another fan commented.

The frustration also came from fans who paid much higher prices during the initial sale. One user questioned why they paid over $700 for tickets when Ticketmaster now claims all tickets should have been under $130.

“Wow…how about people who bought those same tickets from your website for $400+??? My upper bowl ticket was almost $500 and you’re telling me the original price was $130??? So YOU scammed us,” a fan wrote on X.

Ticketmaster responded to these complaints by saying the tickets in the request campaign are “a limited subset of the residency” that were originally priced under $130. The company said scalpers target the lowest price tickets to get the biggest markup.

Ticketmaster’s Troubled History with Scalping and Lawsuits

This situation did not happen in isolation. Ticketmaster has faced years of criticism over its handling of ticket sales for major artists. The Eras Tour ticket sale problems for Taylor Swift fans became a famous example of the company’s failures.

The recent federal jury decision added fuel to the fire. The court found that Live Nation ran a monopoly that hurt fans by driving up prices. Live Nation has said it plans to appeal the ruling.

One fan connected the timing of Ticketmaster’s scalper announcement to the legal loss.

“Took a 4 yr lawsuit but they now have to listen to their consumers,” a user posted.
