The latest episode of Survivor 50 brought a surprise guest who changed the game forever. YouTube star MrBeast showed up in Fiji with a briefcase and a twist that left everyone scrambling. The April 29 episode, titled “A Side Dish of Chaos,” featured a high-stakes gamble that directly led to Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick getting voted out.

The MrBeast Twist That Shook Up Survivor 50

Host Jeff Probst introduced MrBeast, calling him the “single biggest YouTuber on planet Earth.” The 27-year-old content creator, known for his viral stunts and massive giveaways, came to the show with something special. He called it the “MrBeast Super Beware Advantage.”

At first, no one knew what the advantage did. MrBeast kept the details secret until Tribal Council. That waiting game made everyone nervous. Probst later said the mystery created a “fear of a known unknown” and caused “cognitive distortion” among the players.

When Tribal Council finally came, MrBeast opened his briefcase. Inside sat a single gold coin. The rules were simple but brutal. One player would call heads or tails and flip the coin. Get it right, and they win immunity plus double the prize money from $1 million to $2 million. Get it wrong, and they go home immediately.

The players had no choice but to participate. If no one volunteered, they would draw rocks and someone would be forced to take the risk.

Rick Devens Takes the Gamble

Rick Devens, who played on Survivor 38, stepped up immediately. He knew his back was against the wall after pulling a fake idol stunt at the previous tribal council. Devens called heads and flipped the coin. It landed on heads. He won immunity, secured his safety, and made the winner’s prize the largest in Survivor history.

But the game was not over. The tribe still had to vote someone out. That is when the real chaos began.

Deleted Scenes Reveal Why Devens Was So Nervous

Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick later explained what viewers did not see on TV. In an interview with TV Insider, she revealed a deleted scene with Ozzy Lusth that explains why Devens panicked at Tribal Council.

“I did go over to Ozzy, and I said, ‘Listen, somebody came to me with your name, and I entertained it. And do you want to know why? It’s because I was told that you’re walking around telling people you don’t trust me,’” Stephenie shared.

Ozzy admitted he said those things on purpose. He wanted to see if the information would get back to him. Stephenie then tried to repair things with Cirie Fields, who was nearby. She offered to go back to the original plan to vote out Devens.

“And so we agreed to do that, but they didn’t show any of that on camera,” Stephenie said. “And that’s why Devens was so nervous and throwing it all on the line at tribal because he knew it had flipped back to him. And that’s why he gave his spiel and his plea and all that.”

How the Twist Led to Stephenie’s Exit

The MrBeast twist changed everything. Devens winning the coin flip meant the target moved elsewhere. Stephenie tried to save herself by using her steal-a-vote advantage. She took Devens’ vote, but it was not enough. The final vote went 8-2 against her.

Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick, a two-time Survivor legend from Palau and Guatemala, became the latest member of the jury. Her experience could not save her from the chaos that MrBeast brought to the island.

The remaining players after episode 10 are Rizo Velovic, Jonathan Young, Cirie Fields, Rick Devens, Aubry Bracco, Joe Hunter, Tiffany Ervin, Ozzy Lusth, and Emily Flippen.

Fans React to the Coin Flip Twist

Not everyone loved MrBeast’s involvement. Some viewers argued that replacing strategy with luck goes against what Survivor stands for. One Reddit user wrote that the twist “is very bad from a design perspective.”

Another fan argued, “I hate that they would force someone to flip it. What’s wrong with just having it sit at tribal until someone decides to run for it?”

Others pointed out that the twist worked because Devens volunteered. But if MrBeast had shown up on a different night, when the person in danger did not know it, the outcome could have been very different.

MrBeast himself seemed excited about the moment. He posted about the episode on social media, celebrating the historic $2 million prize bump.

Why Survivor Brought MrBeast In

Survivor 50 carries the subtitle “In the Hands of the Fans.” The season lets viewers vote on game mechanics and production designs. Bringing in celebrity fans like MrBeast, Jimmy Fallon, Billie Eilish, and Zac Brown fits that theme.

MrBeast also has a connection to the Survivor production team. The show’s crew helped run challenges for his Amazon series “Beast Games” before filming season 50. Jeff Probst even co-hosted parts of the crossover.

The MrBeast twist did more than just create a fun TV moment. It changed the financial stakes of the entire season. For the first time in 25 years and 50 seasons, the winner of Survivor will take home $2 million instead of $1 million.

Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick may have been the one sent to the jury, but her elimination showed how one guest appearance can flip an entire game on its head.
