The foul-mouthed teddy bear is not going away anytime soon. Seth MacFarlane, the creator and voice behind the famous talking bear, just dropped major news about the future of the Ted franchise. During a recent panel, MacFarlane confirmed that he is working on not one, but three separate projects to expand the world of the crude but lovable stuffed animal.
While the second season of the live-action prequel series arrived on Peacock in March 2026, fans thought the story might be winding down. MacFarlane himself had previously suggested there were no plans for a third season. But in a surprising change of direction, he revealed that he wants to continue the live-action story, make another movie, and finally release an animated series that has been decades in the making.

Ted Season 3 and a New Movie Are on the Table
MacFarlane opened up about the future during the Deadline Contenders TV event. He confirmed that Season 3 of the live-action series is something he actively wants to create. However, there is one major roadblock: the decision rests entirely with Peacock, the streaming service that hosts the show.
MacFarlane did not hide his feelings about the budget required to bring the CGI bear to life. He joked that the streaming platform would need to dig deep into its pockets to make more episodes happen.
โIt really is up to Peacock with their, you know, vast amounts of big Scrooge McDuck money that they dive into every day,โ said Seth MacFarlane at the panel.
Alongside the potential third season, MacFarlane revealed he is also toying with the idea of creating a direct-to-Peacock live-action feature film. This would not be a theatrical release like the 2012 and 2015 movies. Instead, it would be a movie made specifically for the streaming service, keeping the current cast of the TV series together.
Alanna Ubach, who plays Susan Bennett in the series, joined MacFarlane on stage. She expressed that the entire cast is ready to return for whatever project gets the green light first.
โI think all of us, in some form or another, whether itโs a Season 3 of Ted or a direct-to-Peacock feature with this cast, is something I think weโd all be up for. Itโs all on the table,โ Ubach said.
The Animated Series Brings Back the Original Movie Cast
The third project MacFarlane teased is an animated Ted series. This is a full-circle moment for the franchise. The very first Ted movie released in 2012 was originally intended to be an animated feature before being changed to live-action. Now, MacFarlane is finally revisiting that original idea.
The animated series is not a replacement for the live-action show. Instead, it continues the story of the original movies. MacFarlane confirmed that the animation takes place after the events of Ted 2. Because of this timeline, the animated show will feature the voices of the original film stars, including Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth.
โItโs only fitting that it all comes back around to the animated show, the first season of which is getting close to completion as far as the production cycle,โ MacFarlane said.
The creator also praised the work of executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, who are leading the animation project. MacFarlane admitted that it is enjoyable for him to step back and watch the show take shape without having to run every detail himself.

Why Ted Season 2 Was a Massive Hit
The reason MacFarlane feels confident asking for more projects is the recent success of Ted Season 2. The season, which premiered in March 2026, performed exceptionally well for Peacock. According to viewing data, the show racked up 1.2 billion minutes viewed shortly after its release, making it the top original comedy across all streaming platforms during that period.

The strong numbers prove that audiences are still interested in the story of John Bennett and his magical teddy bear. MacFarlaneโs deal with UCP (Universal Content Productions) remains active, allowing his production company, Fuzzy Door, to develop these new ideas specifically for the NBCUniversal platforms.
For now, fans will have to wait to see which project gets approved first. Whether it is a third season, a new movie, or the animated series, Seth MacFarlane has made it clear that the world of Ted is far from finished.
