The character fans were worried will vanish has received a strong promise from the show’s lead. Noah Wyle has now spoken clearly about bringing back a key figure from the showโs second season.
Noah Wyle Promises Baby Jane Doe Will Return on The Pitt
The second season of The Pitt ended with a quiet but powerful moment. Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch held a newborn known only as Baby Jane Doe in a room that used to be a morgue. The scene was deeply emotional. Robby confessed to the child that he was also abandoned at age eight. It was the season’s final image, and it left viewers wondering if the baby would survive or simply disappear from the story.
The wait for an answer is now over. Noah Wyle recently spoke about the infantโs future on the show. He did not just hint at a return. He made a direct statement to settle the debate.
Wyleโs Red Carpet Promise
While attending the Time 100 Gala in New York City on April 23, 2026, Wyle spoke with reporters from People magazine. When asked about the fate of Baby Jane Doe, the actor and executive producer was very clear about his wishes.
“I think we’ve got to bring her back,” Wyle stated.
Being the professional he is, Wyle quickly added a touch of humor to the serious moment. He joked that the character could return in a much later season, “at least in season 20, as a new nurse.” This joke confirms that even the star of the show sees potential in this character for the long term.

Why the Baby Matters to Dr. Robby
The connection between Dr. Robby and Baby Jane Doe became the emotional core of Season 2. The child was found abandoned in a hospital bathroom at the start of the Fourth of July shift. Throughout the 15 episodes, the staff searched for the mother while keeping the baby alive.
R. Scott Gemmill, the creator of the show, explained to Variety that the baby represents someone who is lost and needs helpโ”not unlike Robby.” In the final scene, Dr. Robby finally breaks down. He admits he was abandoned as a child, drawing a direct line between the helpless infant and his own trauma.
Wyle explained the importance of that specific setting to Us Weekly. He noted that the room used to hold dead bodies during the COVID season. “It just seemed like very nice and poetic symmetry to bring him back into that room and to have him deal with that baby at the end of it all,” Wyle said.
Season 3 Production and the Time Jump
Fans will not have to wait much longer to see if Wyleโs idea becomes reality. Season 3 of The Pitt is set to begin filming in June 2026.
There will be a significant time jump. Wyle previously told USA Today that the new season will move into the fall. “It will be pre-Thanksgiving, moving into colder weather. The holidays are approaching,” Wyle revealed. The show will likely leave the summer setting of Season 2 behind.
This time jump raises an interesting question about Baby Jane Doe. If the show moves to November or December, the infant will be several months older. Showrunner Gemmill remains committed to keeping Wyle at the center, telling Parade that he would not want to do the show without him. This confirms Dr. Robby is returning from his sabbatical.
