The latest episode of Tracker took viewers on a wild ride as Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw stepped up to protect his friend Reenie Greene’s key court case. The episode, titled “Chain of Custody,” aired on CBS on May 3, 2026, and delivered a high-stakes story that moved away from Colter’s usual missing person cases to focus on Reenie’s dangerous legal battle.
What started as a simple search for a missing witness quickly turned into a confrontation with the Dixie Mafia. The episode gave fans a deeper look at Reenie’s past while keeping the action going with shootouts, a dramatic explosion, and a rescue that required Colter to take out multiple bad guys.
The Witness Disappears Right Before the Trial
Reenie and her legal partner Maxine (Kathleen Robertson) were getting ready for a major wrongful death lawsuit against a corrupt real estate company called Prater and Rockwell. Their star witness was a man named Curtis, who had solid evidence against the company. But when Reenie couldn’t reach him, she knew something was wrong.
Colter arrived at Curtis’s house to investigate. He found blood on the floor and a knife missing from the kitchen. Someone had tried to clean up the scene. Then Colter discovered a dead body in the house. Fortunately, it wasn’t Curtis. The dead man appeared to be an intruder who got stabbed during a struggle. Colter realized Curtis likely killed the man in self-defense, but someone else took him away.
Reenie felt guilty for getting Curtis involved in the case. She told Colter that she and Maxine had been receiving threats, but she didn’t report them to the police because intimidation happens often in big lawsuits.
Colter Tracks Curtis Through the Woods
Without a GPS on Curtis’s truck, Randy (Chris Lee) couldn’t find the vehicle. But Colter noticed the truck might have a Ham radio. Randy tracked the signal and found the truck’s location. When Colter got there, the truck was overturned and empty in a ditch.
Colter kept digging. He found a nearby bar and convinced an employee to let him check the security footage. The video showed Curtis breaking into a car and driving away. An SUV followed right behind him. Colter tracked both vehicles to the woods, where he found them abandoned.
Following a trail of blood, Colter discovered Curtis holding a man at gunpoint inside a cabin. Curtis had tied up the man who had been following him. But during a coughing fit, Curtis needed his oxygen tank, and the man broke free. The man grabbed a knife and got Curtis’s gun. Right when he was about to shoot Curtis, Colter arrived and shot the man first.
A Secret Past With the Dixie Mafia Comes Out
After Colter saved him, Curtis admitted the kidnapping had nothing to do with the Prater and Rockwell case. The man after him was Lowell Parker, a leader of the Dixie Mafia. Years ago, Curtis worked as one of Parker’s muscle men. He quit after Parker’s daughter died of a drug overdose on Curtis’s watch. Curtis found her dead in a bathtub. Parker blamed Curtis for her death and wanted revenge.
Curtis changed his name and moved to a new town to hide from Parker. But the lawsuit brought attention to him, and Parker found out where he lived. Then Reenie called with terrible news. Parker had kidnapped Curtis’s stepdaughter, Jackie.

The Final Confrontation Ends With Colter’s Smartest Move
Lowell Parker called Reenie directly and demanded Curtis in exchange for Jackie. Reenie had to follow his instructions and bring Curtis to a meeting spot alone at night. Colter followed her without being seen.
At the location, Parker forced Reenie to stay in the car. His men brought out Jackie with her hands tied and a gag in her mouth. Curtis begged Parker to let Jackie go and offered his own life instead. Parker refused and prepared to execute Jackie.
Colter had already taken out Parker’s backup inside the house. From a balcony above, he saw Curtis’s oxygen tank sitting near a car tire. Colter shot the oxygen tank, causing a large explosion that distracted everyone. Reenie rammed her car into two of Parker’s men, then reversed into another one. While Parker was distracted, Colter shot and killed him, saving Jackie and Curtis.
Reenie Opens Up About Her Past
After securing the witness, Reenie and Maxine confronted Devon, one of Prater and Rockwell’s lead lawyers. They had proof that Devon worked for a firm representing Lowell Parker. The courier who sent threatening photos to Reenie also worked for that firm. Devon had told Parker about Curtis’s location. Reenie and Maxine gave Devon a choice—agree to a favorable settlement for their clients, or they would report him to the bar association. Devon agreed right away.
The episode ended with Colter taking Reenie to a shooting range. Her aim was terrible. She admitted she wasn’t sure she should have bought a gun. Then Reenie shared something personal. She moved around 12 times as a kid and always felt like a stranger. She got into trouble a lot but changed her life when she realized no one was going to save her.
Reenie confessed that the attack she survived last year turned her back into a scared little girl who felt she had no control. Colter reminded her that she has a support group who has her back. He told her she is strong and doesn’t break easily. The moment showed a softer side of both characters and highlighted their strong friendship.
