After five seasons of bloody chaos, Prime Video’s hit superhero series has officially ended. May 20 marked the release of the final episode titled “Blood and Bone,” bringing the story of Billy Butcher and his team to a close. The show’s last chapter delivered on its promise of major deaths, shocking twists, and answered the big question: Did The Boys actually succeed?

More than 55 million viewers tuned in for the fifth season, making it the most-watched installment of the series. While some fans complained about slower moments earlier in the season, the finale packed enough action and emotional weight to satisfy most longtime followers.

How Kimiko Became The Weapon That Stopped Homelander

The finale starts with a memorial for Frenchie (Tomer Capone), who died heroically in Episode 7. His death was not in vain. The risky plan he and Butcher (Karl Urban) cooked up actually worked. They exposed Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) to heavy radiation, giving her the same power as Soldier Boy. She can now remove any superhero’s abilities just by touching them.

But Kimiko is drowning in grief over losing Frenchie. Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) tries to provoke her to test the new power. It works. Kimiko touches Sage and wipes out her super-intelligence instantly. The smartest woman in the world suddenly becomes ordinary. Fans watching cheered as Sage’s smug expression disappeared.

The White House Battle And Every Major Death

The remaining Boys have one mission: stop Homelander (Antony Starr) from declaring himself a god on live television. They break into the White House but walk right into a trap. Ashley (Colby Minifie), who had previously thrown the President under the bus to save herself, redeems her character by helping The Boys escape.

The team splits up. Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso) and Hughie (Jack Quaid) face Oh Father (Daveed Diggs), a supe who kills with sonic screams. Mother’s Milk shoves a ball gag into Oh Father’s mouth. When Oh Father tries to scream, his own power backfires and his head explodes.

Starlight (Erin Moriarty) confronts The Deep (Chace Crawford) one last time. She uses her powers to launch him into the ocean. The marine animals The Deep spent years mistreating finally get their revenge, swarming him with brutal force.

Homelander’s Final Moments

The main event happens in the Oval Office. Kimiko, Ryan (Cameron Crovetti), and Butcher corner Homelander. Kimiko uses her power-removing ability on him. But the blast is so strong it also drains Ryan and Butcher’s powers.

Now completely ordinary, Homelander begs for his life. Butcher shows no mercy. He beats Homelander to death with a crowbar in front of rolling cameras. The moment fulfills the promise Butcher made to his late wife Becca years ago. Antony Starr’s performance as a powerless, crying villain earned praise across social media.

Butcher’s Final Choice And Death

Homelander’s death does not end the story. Butcher believes the Vought machine will just create another monster. He decides to release the supe-killing virus through the White House sprinkler system. This would wipe out every superhero on the planet.

Just as Butcher prepares to unleash the virus, he sees Hughie. The moment makes him pause. But before anyone can react, Hughie shoots Butcher in the chest. In his final moments, Butcher admits he had already decided to stop. Watching Hughie do the right thing broke through his darkness. Butcher dies in Hughie’s arms.

Where Everyone Ends Up

The finale wraps up every character’s journey. President Singer gets restored to power. Terror, Butcher’s dog, dies peacefully in his sleep. Kimiko travels to France to honor Frenchie’s memory. Mother’s Milk takes in Ryan and finds a new family.

Hughie and Starlight discover they are having a daughter. They plan to name her after Robin, Hughie’s girlfriend who died in the very first episode. Hughie turns down a government job to run an electronics store with Annie. She still fights crime on the side.

Sister Sage loses her intelligence permanently. She heads to Harry Potter World, finally able to enjoy simple things without her brain overloading.

Fan reactions online have been mostly positive. Reddit threads are filled with debates about whether Butcher deserved redemption. Many viewers called The Deep’s death the most satisfying moment of the entire series. Others pointed out that Stan Edgar returning to Vought in the final scene proves the system never really changes.

The showrunner Eric Kripke told reporters ahead of the finale that he wanted every death to matter. “If you’re going to take out a member of The Boys, you want it to feel as painful as possible,” he said in an interview.

“You want to try to rip the audience’s heart out. You want it to matter if you’re going to do it.” – Eric Kripke, show creator
