Widow’s Bay wrapped its first season on Apple TV+ on June 17, 2026, with a finale that left fans both satisfied and desperate for more. Titled “We Hope You Enjoyed Your Time,” Episode 10 delivers a gut-punch of a twist, a shocking death, and an ominous cliffhanger that sets up an intense second season. The episode picks up in the middle of the raging storm, forcing all the residents and a group of terrified tourists into the emergency shelter while Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) tries to end the centuries-old curse once and for all.
The only known way to break the curse is to wipe out the bloodline of the island’s founder, Richard Warren. Tom, Patricia (Katie O’Flynn), and Wyck (Stephen Root) believe they have finally identified the last descendant: Ruth Livingston (K Callan), Tom’s elderly secretary. The episode centers on the moral dilemma of whether to sacrifice one innocent life to save the entire town.
Tom’s Haunting Realization
After learning that Ruth is the last Warren descendant, Tom makes a difficult decision. He goes to Ruth’s house, intending to kill her by spiking her tea with a dangerous combination of her medications. But as he waits for the tea to steep, the plan goes horribly wrong. Instead of dying, Ruth awakens and begins sharing long-held secrets.
Ruth reveals that when she was 40, she had an affair with a married man and became pregnant. She gave the baby up for adoption to the man and his wife, watching the child grow up from a distance. That child was Lauren, Tom’s late wife. Ruth kept her job as Tom’s secretary all these years just to be close to her grandson, Evan.
The realization hits Tom like a truck: his son Evan is the last living descendant of Richard Warren. If Tom kills Ruth, Evan will be next, and he cannot kill his own son. The curse cannot be broken without sacrificing his child.

The Island’s Entity and the Bell Toll
While Tom wrestles with this impossible truth, chaos erupts in the shelter. Bored and reckless, Evan and his friends discover a hidden room beneath the shelter containing an electric chair and a rusted metal hatch.
Meanwhile, town employee Dale finds old film reels detailing the island’s history. The footage reveals that the island’s residents have been sacrificing people to a demonic entity for generations. A voice in the reel states that the “bad times will not end until the covenant is honored” and that “the island will make its needs known, one soul for each bell toll.”
In the cellar, the entity emerges and claims a victim, Kenny the Custodian. His death is enough to temporarily end the storm. However, the next morning, as Tom throws Ruth’s heirloom brooch into the sea, the church bell tolls eight times. Kenny was only the first sacrifice. The island demands eight more souls to be fully satisfied.
Sheriff Bechir Takes Matters Into His Own Hands
Sheriff Bechir Clemmons (Kevin Carroll), driven by a desperate need to protect his unborn child from the curse, also goes to Ruth’s house. His wife is in labor, and he fears that if the child is born on the island, it will never be able to leave. He bursts in and shoots Ruth, believing he is saving his family.
Tom reveals that Ruth was not the final descendant, though he refuses to say who is. The storm ends, but it is not because of Ruth’s death. The sacrifice of Kenny in the cellar is what calmed the island, at least for a moment.
