The popular fantasy war manga The Bugle Call: Song of War is getting a television anime adaptation. CyberAgent’s new studio, CA Soa, will produce the series, which is scheduled to premiere in 2027. The announcement came with a teaser trailer and visual.

Fans of Mozuku Sora and Higoro Tลmori’s manga have been waiting for this news. The series has gained a strong following since its debut in Shueisha’s Jump SQ. magazine in June 2022. The story follows Luca, a bugler who dreams of becoming a musician but is pulled into a massive war.

A New Studio Takes on the Fantasy War Series

CA Soa, the newly established animation studio under the CyberAgent Group, will handle the animation production. Masakazu Ogawa, a well-known anime producer, leads the studio. This project marks the first major title for CA Soa.

The studio has put together an experienced team for the adaptation. Shinya Watada is directing the anime. He has previously worked on Rock is a Lady’s Modesty and Gundam Build Fighters Try. Michihiro Tsuchiya is in charge of the series scripts. He is known for his work on Akane-banashi. Michinori Chiba is designing the characters. His credits include Sk8 the Infinity and Mobile Suit Gundam 00.

“The Bugle Call: Song of War follows Luca, a young boy dreaming of becoming a ‘musician,’ whose special power ‘sprouts’ amidst a harsh destiny. The narrative depicts his growth through meaningful encounters with new companions.”

The production team also includes Hiroshi Arisawa as the action animator and Hitomi Koto as the music composer. Shirogumi is handling the CG animation for the series. This visual effects studio is known for its work on Godzilla Minus One and other major projects.

Story and Characters of The Bugle Call

The story takes place in Arboral Year 1294. The world is ruled by nine massive towers called the Spires. These towers are remnants of an advanced civilization. Nations fight to control them and gain access to their powerful secrets.

Luca serves as a bugler in a mercenary company. He hates the battlefield and dreams of becoming a real musician. But he has a unique ability. He can “see” the sound of his instrument. This makes him one of the “Branch-hexed,” people with strange powers.

After a battle, Luca is left for dead. He is saved by the mysterious Pontiff. Luca learns that he is not the only one with special abilities. The Pontiff has gathered a team of Branch-hexed individuals. They plan to use their powers to defeat rival empires. Luca discovers that his powers tie him to the battlefield rather than freeing him from it.

Teaser Trailer and Visual Revealed

Alongside the announcement, CyberAgent released a teaser visual and an extended teaser trailer. The trailer is nearly four minutes long. It shows the series’ fantasy world and intense battle scenes.

The trailer highlights Luca’s ability to see sounds. It also shows his meeting with Zoe, a fellow branch-holder. The trailer features the work of Shirogumi, who created the CG action sequences. The music, composed by Hitomi Koto, uses many live instruments to match the series’ sound theme.
