Fauda Season 5 has arrived on Netflix, bringing back Lior Raz as Doron Kavillio for another intense chapter. The new season dropped on September 8, 2026, with 11 episodes that take place two years after the October 7, 2023 attacks. The show tackles heavy themes of grief, revenge, and the cost of war. Here is a complete breakdown of how the season ends and what happens to the main characters.
The fifth season opens with retired operative Eli (Yaakov Zada Daniel) still struggling with the loss of his wife Hagit and children on October 7. A Bedouin tracker named Salem (Bian Anteer), who also lost his son that day, brings Eli a lead. The Hamas operative responsible for their families’ deaths is alive in Marseille, France. Eli decides to go after him without waiting for permission. Gabi (Itzik Cohen) calls Doron and asks him to follow Eli to France. That is how Doron gets pulled back into the fight.
By the time Doron reaches Marseille, Eli has already made contact with fighters tied to the old cell and killed two of them. Salem dies in the gunfight at a kebab shop. Eli manages to make one of the militants talk and learns that his commander, Maher Zeytoun, ordered the attack on Eli’s family. What started as a personal revenge mission turns into something much bigger. Saeed al-Khatib (Hakim Djaziri), a Hamas commander running a European cell out of Marseille, is gathering people for a new attack inside Israel.
Doron and Eli take false names and join Saeed’s group. French actress Mélanie Laurent joins the cast as Anne, Maher’s widow. She believes her husband was an ordinary man murdered in France and wants revenge. She pushes her way into Saeed’s circle. The unit is inside the terrorist cell, and the widow of the man Doron shot is standing right next to them.
What Was Saeed’s Real Target
Saeed plans to carry out a big attack in Israel. At first, everyone thinks the Western Wall is his target. But the team eventually realizes he is actually planning attacks on military cemeteries during Memorial Day. That is the day when cemeteries are crowded with families honoring fallen soldiers. It would be the perfect time to cause maximum casualties.
Anne changes her decision from taking revenge to helping Doron. After learning what happened to Eli’s family during the October 7 attack, she helps them find Saeed. She did not want innocent people to get hurt. Anne reveals Saeed’s real intent behind the attack, helping the team realize it is actually cemeteries he is after.
How Doron Stops Saeed
In the Season 5 finale, Doron and Steve (Doron Ben-David) try to stop the attackers after the shooting starts. Saeed gets wounded, and Doron follows him. The two come face to face. Doron, while pointing a gun at Saeed, says this is for Eli and his family on October 7. He shoots multiple bullets at Saeed. Saeed dies.
“Doron shoots Saeed dead, avenging the deaths of Eli, his family, and the other victims of the October 7 attacks.”
In total, 11 terrorists get neutralized. But the attack still causes casualties. Many civilians get injured, and a few die. The team stops Saeed’s operation from becoming the massacre he intended, but people have still been killed and injured at the other cemeteries.
Eli’s Death and Memorial
Eli dies before the final chase. He could not take Hagit and her family’s death on October 7. Doron mentions this while killing Saeed. The season treats Eli’s memorial as the real ending, not Saeed’s death.
Towards the end of the finale episode, the team gathers to remember and mourn Eli. They hold a memorial and prayer, including Kaddish, to honor him. Doron gets emotional while washing his hands, thinking about everything they have been through. The last sequence moves away from the action and gives Eli the ending that Saeed’s death cannot provide.

What Happens to Anne
After the attack, Anne is still in custody. Doron shows up to see her, thanking Anne for making the right decision and saving many lives, including his. Doron admits he is the one who killed Maher. He was nice to her because he felt sorry for Anne, being a nice person caught up in this mess. Anne explains that the only reason she did not pull the trigger and blow herself up at the checkpoint is because of a little girl in the car next to them. She was looking at her and did not want to hurt an innocent child.
Doron’s Emotional State
Doron has been struggling with PTSD throughout the season. He is in therapy and still washing blood off his hands in his head. His wife Gali (Netta Garti) is worried about him. Being held in Syria caused all of his missing memories from October 7 to come flooding back. The season shows Doron as a shattered man, not an invincible fighting machine. The emotional toll is heavy, and the finale leaves him facing the fallout of everything that happened.
