BTS fans have rallied around SUGA amidst his ongoing DUI case, demonstrating their unwavering support through various acts of solidarity. Fans recently put up reassurance banners in front of the HYBE agency building, where BTS is managed. These banners, filled with heartfelt messages and BTS lyrics, aim to uplift and reassure the rapper, who is currently under investigation for an incident that occurred earlier this month.
SUGA, a beloved member of the global sensation BTS, found himself at the center of controversy after a DUI incident on August 6, 2024. While riding an electric scooter, he fell on the road while heading home, only to be discovered by three patrolling police officers who noticed the smell of alcohol. Following the incident, SUGA was taken to a local police station for further investigation. The case has attracted significant public attention, with fans and the media closely monitoring the developments.
Despite the gravity of the situation, BTS ARMY—the dedicated fanbase of BTS—has stood by SUGA’s side. They’ve expressed their support by trending messages like “I love you” on social media, promoting his solo songs, and now, by placing banners outside HYBE’s headquarters. The banners feature a mix of BTS lyrics and personal messages to SUGA. Some of the standout messages include:
- “Got army right behind you when you say so.”
- “Future’s gonna be okay.”
- “We love you Min Yoongi.”
- “BTS is seven.”
In addition to the fan support, Jang Yi Jeong, also known as EL CAPITXN, has shown strong backing for his friend and collaborator, SUGA. On August 23, EL CAPITXN celebrated the return of their song “Snooze” to the Billboard charts—a notable achievement during such a challenging time. “Snooze,” a track from SUGA’s solo album D-2 under his Agust D moniker, was a collaboration that also featured contributions from the late Japanese pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto and The Rose’s Woosung.
EL CAPITXN further expressed his support by updating his Instagram with a pinned reel, changing the caption to:
- “It’s all gonna be alright.”
This gesture comes on the heels of SUGA’s first appearance for investigation on August 23. Following this, his track “Polar Night” from his Agust D moniker soared to #1 on the Worldwide iTunes Song chart. This achievement was particularly significant as it marked the first time the track had reached this peak, a year after its initial release. Throughout the night, tracks from Agust D’s D-DAY album began charting on Worldwide iTunes, with “Snooze,” “Haegeum,” “The Last,” and others making a return.
Agust D has also set a record as the only artist with the most songs (five) charting at #1 on iTunes Country Charts worldwide. These tracks include “Haegeum,” “Polar Night,” “Snooze,” “The Last,” and “People.” Additionally, on the morning of August 24, “The Last,” originally released in 2016, reached #1 on iTunes in the U.S. for the first time, over eight years after its release. Currently, Agust D’s tracks hold the #1 spot on iTunes in 58 countries, with “Polar Night” leading in 40 of them.
As the situation continues to unfold, BTS fans are likely to keep showing their unwavering support for SUGA during this difficult time.
