Celebrity hairstylist Jesus Guerrero, known for working with stars like Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Lopez, died from AIDS-related complications. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed his cause of death as severe pneumonia and a fungal infection.
Guerrero passed away on February 22, 2025, at age 34. His death was sudden and shocked his family, friends, and clients. The official report states he had a weakened immune system due to AIDS, which led to fatal infections.
The medical examiner listed his primary cause of death as Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia and disseminated Cryptococcus neoformans. Both are serious infections that affect people with weak immune systems. AIDS was noted as a contributing condition.
Guerrero arrived at a Los Angeles hospital on February 21 after feeling unwell. He died the next morning at 12:48 AM. The medical examiner completed the final report on June 2 after further tests.
His sister, Gris Guerrero, described his death as unexpected. She said the family was still processing the news.
“We knew some of his symptoms toward the end were pneumonia-like, but there are more factors [which] led to that at the end.”
Guerrero had been sick since September 2024 but continued working. He styled Kali Uchis at the 2025 Grammys and traveled to Dubai with Jennifer Lopez weeks before his death.
Kylie Jenner, a close friend and client, paid for his funeral and helped his family. She posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram after his passing.
“Jesus was more than my friend—he was a light in my life, a source of laughter, comfort, love, and unwavering support. I don’t know how I would have made it through the last almost decade without him by my side.”
Jennifer Lopez also shared her grief, calling Guerrero gentle and kind. She said his talent and presence were unforgettable.
Guerrero’s funeral was held in Houston on March 30. Jenner, Lopez, and other celebrities attended to pay their respects.
The hairstylist worked with many A-list stars, including Katy Perry, Demi Moore, and Dua Lipa. His sudden death left the entertainment industry in mourning.
His family set up a GoFundMe page, which raised $96,000—far exceeding their $60,000 goal. The funds will help cover his final expenses and personal matters.
Cryptococcus neoformans, one of the infections Guerrero had, is found in soil and bird droppings. It usually affects people with weak immune systems.
Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) is another rare but serious lung infection linked to AIDS. Both conditions are considered opportunistic infections.
Guerrero kept his health struggles private, even from his family. His sister said he believed he could push through his illness.
“He didn’t tell a lot of people. People who saw him said, ‘You need to get rest and help,’ and he seemed to believe he could push through it and get better.”
Despite his illness, Guerrero maintained a busy schedule. He worked with Kylie Jenner in Paris and Georgia before his hospitalization.
His death has raised awareness about AIDS-related illnesses. Many fans and colleagues expressed shock, as Guerrero never publicly disclosed his condition.
Kim Kardashian, Jenner’s sister, also shared a tribute. She called Guerrero a kind soul and said his death crushed their “glam family.”
Guerrero’s career took him from Houston to Hollywood. He styled major celebrities and worked at high-profile events like the Grammys and fashion weeks.
His family remembers him as a loving son, brother, and uncle. They hope people celebrate his life and the joy he brought to others.
