DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has addressed the ongoing delays for The Batman Part II, urging fans to be patient. He also called out “mean” fans spreading false rumors about the sequelโ€™s cancellation. The film, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, was originally set for a 2025 release but is now delayed to October 2027.

Gunn confirmed the sequel is not canceled but admitted the script is still in progress. He defended Reevesโ€™ slow pace, saying the director needs time to perfect the story. The delay follows the 2023 Hollywood strikes and Reevesโ€™ meticulous approach to writing.

“Iโ€™ll also say Batman Part II is not canceled. Thatโ€™s the other thing I hear all the time โ€” that Batman Part II is canceled. Itโ€™s not canceled. We donโ€™t have a script. Mattโ€™s slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what heโ€™s doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man.”

Fans have been frustrated by the lack of updates, especially after The Penguin TV series (2024) set up events for the sequel. Gunn clarified that Reevesโ€™ Batman universe remains separate from the new DCU, which will introduce its own Batman in The Brave and the Bold.

Gunn also dismissed rumors that Pattinsonโ€™s Batman could join the DCU, calling it unlikely. Meanwhile, Reeves continues working on the script, with Gunn expressing excitement for the final draft.

“What Matt’s doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary. We’re supposed to see that script shortly, and I can’t wait.”

The delay means The Batman Part II will arrive over five years after the first film. Gunnโ€™s focus remains on launching the new DCU with Superman, releasing July 11, 2025.
