The second season of Paramount+’s hit oil drama Landman concluded with a major promotion for its youngest main character. Cooper Norris, played by actor Jacob Lofland, was appointed President of the new family-run venture, CTT Oil Exploration & Cattle, by his father Tommy Norris, setting the stage for a transformed character in the upcoming season. With production for Landman Season 3 scheduled to begin in spring 2026, the actor is preparing to show a very different side of Cooper, moving from a roughneck in the oil fields to a leader in the boardroom.

Jacob Lofland’s New Research and Preparation for Playing a President

To accurately portray Cooper’s new executive role, Jacob Lofland has stated he needs to do significantly more homework. The actor, who is 28 years old, revealed that for the first two seasons, he focused on the physical, gritty world of a roughneck working the oil patch. For Season 3, his preparation is shifting to understanding the corporate and financial mechanics of running an oil company.

โ€œI’m going to have to do a lot more research,โ€ Lofland told The Hollywood Reporter. โ€œI’m really going to have to figure out the terminology and inner workings. I would like that understanding going into it. I will probably dedicate a little more time to figuring that out.โ€

This shift in preparation mirrors Cooper’s own dramatic journey on the show. He started as a college dropout working on a drilling crew for M-Tex Oil. After a tragic accident on the job, he navigated guilt, founded his own small venture, and made risky deals, including one with a cartel boss played by Andy Garcia. His ambition and luck ultimately led to the creation of CTT Oil, with his father placing him at the helm.

Lofland also shared that as Cooper grows into this powerful new position, the character may start to align more closely with the actor’s own personality. โ€œHopefully, [the character] just encroaches closer to who I am today,โ€ he said, โ€œand eventually we will just be the same person. We’re real close to it now.โ€

New Family Dynamics and Business Threats Await in Season 3

Cooper’s promotion means the Norris family is now officially in business together, which promises new dynamics for the show. Lofland expressed particular excitement about working more with actresses Ali Larter and Michelle Randolph, who play his mother Angela and sister Ainsley Norris.

โ€œIt’s such a different dynamic from everything Cooper is used to,โ€ Lofland said, highlighting a scene from Season 2 where the three shared a truck. โ€œThe dynamics are hilarious, with Ainsley giving Cooper all the crap she can, and Angela in the middle trying to moderate. It’s such a sibling moment. I love working with those two.โ€

However, the family’s new beginning is built on a dangerous foundation. To secure funding for CTT Oil, Tommy Norris entered a partnership with the cartel boss Gallino. In the Season 2 finale, Gallino calmly warned Tommy that if their deal goes badly, he will come after what Tommy loves mostโ€”his family. This threat casts a long shadow over the hopeful conclusion and will be a central source of tension in the new season.

โ€œThe calmness behind that threat is what makes me scared,โ€ Lofland admitted, reflecting on the scene between Andy Garcia and Billy Bob Thornton. โ€œHow little emotion he shows to let you know that he’s truthful and means what he saysโ€ฆ It could be a great help or a real problem.โ€

Furthermore, the show’s co-creator, Christian Wallace, hinted that the new company structure will allow the story to explore fresh challenges and settings. He expressed excitement about returning to the grittier landscapes of West Texas, suggesting a shift from the corporate offices featured heavily in Season 2.

Carrying the Weight of Past Trauma Forward

Season 2 ended on a high note with the launch of CTT Oil, but Cooper carries severe emotional baggage into his new job. In the penultimate episode, he was forced to use lethal violence to save his fiancรฉe, Ariana, from a brutal attack. This traumatic event will continue to affect both characters.

Lofland confirmed that the intense filming of that scene stayed with him and his co-star, Paulina Chรกvez, for days afterward. He expects the psychological fallout to be part of Cooper’s story in Season 3. โ€œThey’re both going to be carrying their own weight going into season three and navigating that on top of everything else that’s happening,โ€ he said.

This personal trauma, combined with the immense pressure of running a company and the looming cartel threat, sets up a complex arc for the young president. He must balance his personal recovery with professional leadership while under the watchful eyes of his father and the entire Norris family crew who joined the new venture.

Release Information and Series Popularity

Fans won’t have to wait long to see Cooper’s new chapter. Following the production pattern of the first two seasons, filming for Landman Season 3 is set to begin in the spring of 2026. If the schedule holds, the season is expected to premiere on Paramount+ in November 2026.

The series has earned this quick renewal thanks to exceptional performance. Landman became the number one most-watched Paramount+ original of all time during its first season. The Season 2 premiere in November 2025 drew over 9.2 million streaming views globally, securing the record for the platform’s biggest premiere. This success all but guarantees the story of the Norris family will continue as creator Taylor Sheridan maps out its future.
