The new season of Invincible is here, and while the show is busy setting up a massive war with the Viltrumite Empire, it still found time for some clever comedy. The second episode, titled “I’ll Give You the Grand Tour,” dropped on Prime Video on March 18, 2026, and it features a funny nod to a classic sci-fi series.

As Nolan (Omni-Man) and Allen the Alien travel across the galaxy looking for weapons to stop Thragg and the remaining Viltrumites, they end up on a ship that looks very familiar. The crew and the vessel are a direct parody of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and the results are both funny and chaotic.

The Venture Crew Is a Star Trek Parody Done Right

In Invincible Season 4 Episode 2, Nolan and Allen board a spaceship called The Venture to help them move around the galaxy without being detected by their enemies. The ship itself is a joke—it is falling apart, alarms are constantly ringing, and pieces of the hull fly off every time it goes to warp speed. This is the complete opposite of the sleek and advanced USS Enterprise from Star Trek.

The crew of The Venture makes the parody even clearer. There is The Captain, a bald man in a red and black uniform who sounds and acts just like Captain Picard. There is Warp, a large angry crew member modeled after Worf. The science officer Download is clearly a version of Data, and Councillor Tuva mirrors Deanna Troi. The show does not hide what it is doing, and fans of Star Trek will spot these details right away.

The humor comes from how bad this crew is at their jobs. The Captain is so incompetent that he accidentally releases a swarm of alien monsters, nearly killing Nolan and Allen. His decisions are so terrible that the rest of the crew immediately supports Telia, Allen’s girlfriend, when she leads a mutiny against him.

The Parody Serves the Story, Not Just Fan Service

One of the reasons this scene works so well is that it is not just there for a quick laugh. The parody fits naturally into the plot. Nolan and Allen need a way to travel to different planets to collect weapons and allies. The Venture and its crew provide that transportation while also adding comedy to what is otherwise a tense mission.

The episode uses the Star Trek theme music when The Venture first appears, which helps set the tone immediately. For viewers who do not know Star Trek, the scene still works because the crew is simply funny on their own. Watching two of the most powerful beings in the universe get slowed down by a group of incompetent space travelers is entertaining no matter what.

There is also a fun connection for fans who know the voice actors. Michael Dorn, who played Worf in Star Trek: The Next Generation, voices the character Battle Beast on Invincible. This adds another layer to the reference for those paying close attention.

Episode 2 Also Reveals Major Viltrumite History

While the Star Trek parody provides some lighter moments, the rest of Invincible Season 4 Episode 2 is packed with heavy story developments. The episode opens with a flashback showing a young Nolan on Viltrum before the empire fell. Viewers finally see how the Scourge Virus killed billions of Viltrumites, leaving only about 50 survivors.

The virus was a biological weapon designed to attack Viltrumite DNA. The scene shows Viltrumites collapsing and dying by the thousands, with bodies eventually forming rings around the planet. This event explains why the Viltrumite population became so small and why they became desperate to find other species to breed with.

The episode also reveals that Thaedus, the leader of the Coalition of Planets, is the one the Viltrumites call “The Betrayer.” He admits to assassinating Emperor Argall and creating the Scourge Virus that killed so many of his own people. He now has an even stronger version of the virus that could wipe out all remaining Viltrumites if released.

Nolan Faces a Difficult Choice

The episode ends with Nolan making a significant decision. After learning about the new virus, he threatens Thaedus but does not kill him. Instead, he makes Thaedus promise only to use the virus if there is absolutely no other choice. Nolan then decides to leave and find his son Mark. This shows how much Nolan has changed from the cold conqueror he was in earlier seasons.

A mid-credits scene introduces Thragg, voiced by Lee Pace, as the Grand Regent of the Viltrumite Empire. Conquest returns to Viltrum and kneels before him, asking to be executed for failing to defeat Mark. Thragg refuses, setting up an even larger conflict to come.
