When The Mandalorian season 3 wrapped up, many viewers thought they were saying goodbye to Din Djarin and Grogu for good. The finale showed the pair settling into a cozy cabin on Nevarro, working as bounty hunters for the New Republic. It felt like a proper send-off. But Pedro Pascal, the voice behind the helmet, recently shared that fans should not treat that episode as a final goodbye.

In a new interview with Empire Magazine, Pascal opened up about what that finale really meant for his character and the small green friend who changed everything.

The Season 3 Finale Gave Fans a New Beginning

The season 3 finale, titled “Chapter 24: The Return,” ended with Din Djarin formally adopting Grogu as his son. The moment came after the Armorer told Din that Grogu needed a parent’s permission to become a Mandalorian apprentice. Without hesitation, Din stepped up and said, “Then I will adopt him as my own.” From that point on, Grogu became Din Grogu, Mandalorian apprentice.

The episode closed with father and son relaxing outside their new home on Nevarro. Grogu used the Force to play with a floating frog while Din watched peacefully. The scene stood in stark contrast to the show’s opening in season 1, where Din hunted targets alone without any attachments.

Pedro Pascal Calls Season 3 Finale “The End of a Particular Chapter”

During his conversation with Empire Magazine, Pedro Pascal explained that the season 3 finale was never meant to be a full stop. “It only felt like the ending of a particular chapter,” Pascal said. He noted that the finale opened up new possibilities for Din Djarin to continue working as a bounty hunter, but with an important change.

“They open up the opportunity for him to continue his best work as a bounty hunter, but just working for the good guys,” Pascal told Empire.

This shift marks a major change for a character who started as a morally gray mercenary willing to take any job that paid well.

How Grogu Changed Din Djarin Forever

Pascal highlighted how Grogu transformed Din Djarin from a cold bounty hunter into someone who fights for what is right. The actor described the change as moving from pure skill to combining skill with morality.

“Whereas when we meet him first, it’s simply skill, and beskar, and [the Mandalorian] Creed,” Pascal explained. “Through his relationship to Grogu, there is an expansion of his heart and a disarming of his armour, so to speak, that leads him to fight for what he knows is right.”

This personal growth sets up where fans will find Din and Grogu in the upcoming film.

The Mandalorian and Grogu Movie Continues the Story

The story that began on Disney+ continues on the big screen with The Mandalorian and Grogu, scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 22, 2026. The movie picks up after the events of season 3 and follows the duo as they take on missions for the New Republic.

Dave Filoni, who worked closely on the series, described the film as “a big celebration” of the two characters audiences have grown to love. Filoni and director Jon Favreau wanted to keep the story grounded in the characters rather than relying on spectacle alone.

“What can’t you do now? It’s a question of, ‘Is the audience going to believe it? Are they going to feel it?’” Filoni said about the approach. “That comes through the characters. If the characters are connecting, then the adventure plays, the action plays, the tension plays.”

A New Era for Din Djarin and Grogu

The shift to film also marks the end of the Disney+ era for The Mandalorian. While season 4 was reportedly written, Lucasfilm chose to turn the next chapter into a feature film instead. Many familiar faces from the series will not return. Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito, met his end in the season 3 finale. Carl Weathers, who played Greef Karga, passed away in early 2024.

New actors joining the franchise include Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White, signaling fresh directions for the story. The movie also introduces Din Djarin facing the reality that Grogu will outlive him by centuries, adding emotional weight to their father-son relationship.

Pascal summed up where Din stands at the start of this new chapter. “Combining skill and morality,” he said, describing a character who now fights not just for himself but for a larger purpose.
