The long wait is over for Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown). After searching across the destroyed surface world, he finally reunites with his wife Teri (Enuka Okuma) in the latest episode of the hit Hulu series. But their emotional reunion comes with a dangerous mission, while back inside the Colorado bunker, Sinatra (Julianne Nicholson) faces a threat she never expected, and the entire underground city begins to collapse.
Episode 7, titled “The Final Countdown,” arrived on March 23, 2026, and it sets the stage for the season finale. The hour brings together storylines that have been running all season, with tensions reaching a breaking point both above and below ground.
Xavier and Teri Reunite After Years Apart
The episode opens right where the previous one left off. Xavier survives the explosion caused by Gary and wakes up to see Teri walking toward him from the armed convoy. But the soldiers surrounding her do not trust him. They grab Xavier and point guns at his head. In typical fashion, he fights back, disarming several of them before Teri screams for everyone to stop.
She explains that Dakota, the convoy leader, and her people are not enemies. They are heading to Colorado to find the bunker. Xavier learns that Teri is not a prisoner—she is a member of their group. After clearing up the confusion, Dakota pulls Xavier aside for a private meeting. She wants to know everything about the bunker before they get there. He tells her about the 25,000 people living underground, Sinatra’s control over the city, and the dangers waiting inside.
While Xavier talks with Dakota, Teri receives a note. It is from Gary. The message says he has Bean, the young boy Teri has been protecting, and she needs to come get him.
A Dangerous Rescue Mission
Dakota gives Xavier and Teri a few hours to rescue Bean before the train leaves for Colorado. She hands Xavier a gun and warns them to be quick. As they walk toward the USPS office where Gary is hiding, Xavier fills Teri in on everything that happened in the bunker—Cal’s murder, the kids, and Sinatra’s lies.
They argue about how to handle Gary. Xavier wants to shoot him from a rooftop. Teri wants to talk to him first. She believes Gary is not a bad person, just broken. They agree on a plan. Teri will go inside while Xavier takes position on the building across the street with Gary in his sights. If anything goes wrong, he will pull the trigger.
Inside, Teri finds Gary with Bean. They talk about Ennis, the man Gary killed. Gary admits he acted out of jealousy. He knows Teri was never really his, and he tells her he wants to die if she leaves. Teri convinces him to let go. She promises to tell Bean about the good man Gary used to be. Gary lets Bean go, and Teri walks out with the boy.
As they return to the train, Xavier tells Teri about Annie’s baby. The child is now part of their family. Teri takes the news in stride. On the train ride west, Xavier falls asleep. He wakes up with a nosebleed, and viewers are left wondering what that means. Some fans think Xavier is connected to Link, the young leader from the surface, in ways no one understands yet.
Sinatra Faces Her Past
Back in the bunker, Sinatra prepares for her meeting with Link, the 26-year-old leader who has been causing problems for her. Her husband Tim suggests she wear red to show strength. Their conversation turns to their son Dylan, who would have turned 26 that day. Tim says he has healed, but Sinatra admits she never will.
At the negotiation, Sinatra meets Link at the gates. He asks for a modular nuclear reactor so his people can restart the world. She refuses. Then he says the real reason he came: he wants Alex. Sinatra ends the meeting, but as Link leaves, one of his men calls him Dylan. Sinatra freezes. She asks him his birthday. He says May 16. That is her dead son’s birthday.
Both Sinatra and Dylan get nosebleeds at the same moment. Dylan promises to destroy everything and walks away. Sinatra goes home and tells her husband, “It worked.” She kisses him and says their son might be okay too. Later, after being with her husband, Sinatra leaves and takes a tram to another location.
The Bunker Starts to Collapse
While Sinatra is gone, chaos breaks out inside Paradise. The board votes for a full lockdown. Jane Driscoll (Nicole Brydon Bloom) tries to kill Gabriela (Sarah Shahi), but the psychologist is ready. She stabs Jane in the back.
Jeremy (Charlie Evans), Robinson (Krys Marshall), and Anders continue their plan to open the bunker doors. They break the air supply machines, and Anders sees the reactors going into full failure. The bunker is breaking down from the inside.
A flashback shows Cal (James Marsden) and Sinatra touring the bunker with Anders years earlier. Cal asks what would happen if the bunker lost oxygen and faced a siege at the same time. Anders says the chances are so small they do not need to worry. But Cal is not convinced. He warns Sinatra that empires fall because of arrogance, not because they were unprepared.
The episode ends with Sinatra walking into a room with a red glow. She says, “Hi Alex,” leaving viewers with a massive cliffhanger before the finale.
