The magic of the Wizarding World is preparing to welcome a new generation, and the original stars are making sure the next cast feels supported. As HBO prepares to release its detailed series adaptation of the beloved books, one familiar face from the original films is extending a hand to the actor stepping into his iconic shoes.
Tom Felton, who played the sneering yet complex Draco Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter films, has publicly shared that he has personally contacted Lox Pratt, the young actor set to play Draco in the upcoming reboot. Felton’s gesture goes beyond a simple public statement; it involves a genuine offer of mentorship and friendship.
Felton’s Personal Offer of Support
While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Felton revealed the lengths he went to in order to make the new cast feel comfortable. He explained that because the pressure on the new actors is so different from when he started, he felt it was important to connect with them directly.
Felton shared that he did not just send a text or an email. He offered up his personal contact information to Pratt and his family.
“I’ve sent word, yes. I think it’s really important. It’s very different — we were entering things that don’t exist; there’s quite a lot of weight now. So the last thing I’m gonna do is offer anything other than say, ‘Here’s my phone number. Here’s my address’. To his parents as well as him, and to anyone else there.”
He acknowledged that his journey and the new cast’s journey are different, and he does not want to impose. However, he made it clear that his door—and phone line—is open for support.
The Slytherin Advice: Steal the Props
While Felton is careful not to tell Pratt how to play the role, he did offer some practical—and humorous—advice based on his own 10-year experience on the film sets. His words were a mix of encouragement for the fun parts of the job and a promise of support for the harder moments.
“Have as much fun as possible, take as many pictures as you can, steal as many props as you can — they’ll be worth a fortune. But also, if you do need a word of encouragement or questions to ask, I’m there,” Felton said with a smile.
This lighthearted tip about taking souvenirs from the set reflects the unique bond that Felton and his co-stars, like Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, built while growing up on screen.
Acknowledging the Weight of the Role
Felton also took a moment to recognize how much harder the job is for the young cast today compared to when he started filming Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2000. He noted the massive presence of social media and the 24/7 news cycle creates pressures that simply did not exist for him.
“It’s inconceivable. It didn’t exist, did it? There was literally physical film cameras… That’s how we grew up learning quidditch. Twenty-five years later, we’re on Broadway together — that’s mental,” Felton reflected.
This understanding of the modern challenges is precisely why he felt it was crucial to reach out and offer a support system.

A Shared Moment on Broadway
The camaraderie among the original cast remains strong. Interestingly, both Felton and Radcliffe are currently performing on Broadway in New York, just a few blocks apart. Felton is reprising his role as an adult Draco in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, while Radcliffe stars in the one-man show Every Brilliant Thing.
Felton recently credited Radcliffe for helping him navigate his own return to the stage, continuing the cycle of support that he is now passing down to Pratt.
“My old school chum, Potter, [Daniel] Radcliffe, has done quite a bit of Broadway, so he’s holding my hand and certainly helping me through all the things that are hard to learn,” Felton told People magazine.
The New Generation of Hogwarts
The support from Felton is a key part of the transition from the film legacy to the new television series. The HBO series is set to release on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026. The show aims to adapt each of J.K. Rowling’s seven books into a separate season, allowing for a deeper exploration of the story.
Alongside Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, the new cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult roles feature a star-studded lineup: John Lithgow is Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu is Severus Snape, and Nick Frost is Rubeus Hagrid.
For viewers in the United States and other territories, the series will stream on HBO Max. In India, it will be available on JioHotstar.
