Patrick J. Adams, known for his role in ‘Suits,’ opens up about feeling starstruck by Michelle Pfeiffer on the set of Taylor Sheridan’s new Paramount+ drama ‘The Madison,’ calling her one of the greatest actors on the planet.

The new family drama The Madison premiered on Paramount+ on March 14, 2026. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the show follows the Clyburn family as they move from New York City to rural Montana after a devastating tragedy. The series features an all-star cast including Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, Matthew Fox, and Patrick J. Adams.

For Adams, stepping onto the set meant working alongside one of Hollywood’s most respected actors. He did not hide his nervousness about sharing scenes with Pfeiffer, who plays family matriarch Stacy Clyburn.

Adams Calls Working With Pfeiffer a ‘Dream Come True’

Patrick J. Adams plays Russell McIntosh, the husband of Paige Clyburn (played by Elle Chapman). Russell is a city investment banker trying to fit into the rough Montana lifestyle. Adams had high praise for his on-screen mother-in-law.

“She is unbelievable, she is like everything you want in a scene partner. Not only is she one of the greatest actors on planet Earth but she is one of the greatest human beings, she is so grounded and so calm and present.”

Adams admitted he usually gets nervous around famous actors. He said he often feels starstruck by people he admires. But he noted that Pfeiffer does not want that kind of attention.

“She wants none of that. She wants to ground you and she wants you to be present and have fun and do back and forth with her, so it was a dream come true.”

The Suits star also spoke about Pfeiffer’s caring nature on set. He explained that she makes sure everyone feels included and valued.

“She makes sure everybody’s taken care of. She makes sure that everybody’s happy, that everybody feels heard and seen, and that we all have a stake in this [show].”

‘I Am Still Scared of Michelle’: Adams Gets Real About His Nerves

Despite his years of acting experience, Patrick J. Adams said he found Michelle Pfeiffer “sort of terrifying” when they first started working together. He admitted with a laugh that he still feels scared of her.

Adams explained that he has watched Pfeiffer’s movies for his whole career. Seeing her work up close was a lot to handle.

“I get starstruck by people. I love acting. I’ve spent my whole life doing it. So, I admire these artists who have given some of the most iconic performances in the world. Every single day I worked with Michelle Pfeiffer, I had to talk myself off the ledge. She hates it. She just wants to be an actor.”

He even tried to prepare by watching her old movies before filming. He called that idea a “terrible mistake” because it only made him more nervous about her legendary status.

Pfeiffer later said she had no idea Adams felt this way. She responded warmly when she found out.

“Oh, you know, no, I didn’t. Oh, Patrick. I love Patrick so much, and he’s so talented, so good.”

Personal Tragedy Helped Adams Connect to ‘The Madison’ Role

The Madison deals heavily with grief and loss. The Clyburn family moves to Montana after the sudden death of the family father, Preston Clyburn (Kurt Russell). Adams revealed that this story hit very close to home for him.

He told People magazine that his own family went through a similar tragedy. A sudden loss shook his family and broke their hearts. When he read the script for The Madison, he was shocked by how much it matched his real life.

“My family suffered a pretty tragic and very sudden loss that shocked, confused and broke our hearts. When I read the script, I was amazed at how much the plot matched what was going on in my life and how I had spent the previous year with my family, taking care of everyone and looking after my mother.”

This personal experience helped him understand his character. Russell is a man who shows up for his family even when he feels uncomfortable and lost.

Co-Star Elle Chapman Shares Her Emotional Moment With Pfeiffer

Young actor Elle Chapman, who plays Paige McIntosh in the show, also shared a touching story about working with Michelle Pfeiffer. Chapman lost her father when she was young. During a dinner scene, something Pfeiffer said reminded her of her dad.

Chapman started crying and could not stop after the director yelled cut. She apologized to Pfeiffer for breaking down.

“I apologised and said ‘I’m sorry, I can’t get out of this’. It was something she said that reminded me of my dad. She [Michelle] said ‘It’s okay, baby. You are an artist and this just means your instrument is working’, and I just really took that home and I don’t think I will ever forget that moment.”

Adams witnessed this moment and praised Chapman for her honesty. He said the set never felt like actors were trying to force emotions. He credited Pfeiffer and the director for creating a safe space where real feelings could come out.
