Aespa‘s Winter and Giselle encountered a tense moment during their recent trip to Shanghai when a person bypassed security, rushing toward them. The incident happened as the group entered the venue for their offline fansign event, raising concerns about the security measures in place.
Details of the Incident
Earlier in the day, Winter and Karina arrived in Shanghai for the event. While heading to their hotel, Winter reportedly faced verbal abuse from a loud crowd shouting about her recent dating rumors.
Later, as the full group arrived at the fansign venue, the entrance was crowded with fans capturing videos and photos. Despite several security guards present, a person managed to slip past staff and bodyguards, rushing toward Winter and Giselle’s entrance. Fortunately, security intercepted the individual moments before they reached the members.
aespa finally arrived at the fansign.

Fan Reactions and Concerns
A video of the incident, shared on Threads and later circulated on X (formerly known as Twitter), prompted widespread backlash against SM Entertainment and the security team overseeing the event.
Isn’t the purpose of security to protect the artists? Just standing blankly in front of the car—how does that count as protection? The real issue here is the person who ran in; they deserve to face the consequences. But isn’t the whole point of having security to immediately stop those kinds of lunatics? It’s ridiculous that only one person ran after them, and even that was barely effective. SM needs to provide proper feedback, and Dream With Us should just disappear.

Fans angry with the bodyguards have accused them of weakly standing around the members and not actively looking around to ensure any possible threats are squashed.

We demand answers: 1. Why was hotel info leaked? Who failed in their duty, allowing easy access to the artist? 2. Why did SM China staff and organizers take no action? Why ignore abuse and threats?
We demand: 1. Investigate the leak and hold responsible parties…
Social media is full of requests for stricter security for aespa. Meanwhile, the group is currently holding their fansign event, where they will greet many Chinese fans.
Despite the unsettling incident, aespa is proceeding with their fansign event, meeting with fans in Shanghai. Calls for improved security arrangements continue to grow among the group’s global fanbase.
