After directing a standout episode in the first season, the multi-talented Colman Domingo is returning to the director’s chair for the second season of Netflix’s The Four Seasons. The actor, who plays Danny in the show, will direct an episode while also performing in it, showcasing his dual skills. Production for the new season started in September 2025.

Colman Domingo’s Directing Role

Domingo is confirmed to be directing an episode for the upcoming season. He first demonstrated his directorial skill on the show’s sixth episode, “Ultimate Frisbee,” during Season 1. His co-stars had high praise for his work. Steve Carell noted that Domingo’s experience as an actor makes him an excellent director.

โ€œHe understands everything that actors are going through,โ€ says Steve Carell. โ€œEveryone is so calm because heโ€™s calm. He gives great, precise notes, but he also lets you do your own thing as your character.โ€

Tina Fey also enjoyed the experience of being directed by Domingo. She highlighted the unique benefit of having a director who is also a performer.

โ€œIt was just a joy to film that scene with Colman, and to be side-coached by one of our finest living actors. I think he made us all a little bit better at acting than we usually are,โ€ said Fey.

Showrunner Lang Fisher described his directing as a “master class,” noting how he could seamlessly switch between acting and directing, even while performing emotional scenes himself.

The Four Seasons Season 2 Production Status

Filing for The Four Seasons Season 2 is officially underway. Netflix announced that production began on September 30, 2025. The schedule indicates that filming started in late September 2025 and is expected to wrap up by December 18, 2025. Based on this timeline, a premiere on Netflix is expected in the second half of 2026.

Returning Cast and New Additions

The main cast from the first season is set to return for the new adventures. This includes Tina Fey as Kate, Will Forte as Jack, Colman Domingo as Danny, Marco Calvani as Claude, Kerri Kenney-Silver as Anne, and Erika Henningsen as Ginny. The story will continue to follow this core group of friends.

A new face joining the cast is Steven Pasquale. He will have a recurring role as Mark Brett, a new friend the group meets during their summer vacation at the Jersey shore. His involvement is expected to extend beyond just the summer episodes.

What to Expect in the New Season

While specific plot details are being kept secret, the second season will continue the show’s unique format. The story will follow the friends as they take four seasonal vacations throughout the year, with two episodes dedicated to each trip. The first season’s finale left several story threads to be explored.

Most significantly, Ginny announced she is pregnant with the child of Nick, who died unexpectedly in a car crash. This will likely create a complex new dynamic between Ginny and Nick’s ex-wife, Anne, as they navigate their shared connection to him through their children. The show’s creators have hinted that this relationship will be a central focus.

Co-creator Tracey Wigfield shared thoughts on the direction for the new season.

โ€œIf we did another season, we would want the same group of friends. Weโ€™d want Ginny to really be tied in there because she and Anne are going to have children who are siblings. And it just gives us a lot to play with in their relationship,โ€ Wigfield said.

The show will also continue to explore the evolving marriages of the other couples, including Kate and Jack’s efforts to repair their relationship and Danny and Claude’s journey as they face health issues and consider their future.
