BEEF Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix, and many viewers are asking whether this new chapter shares the same world as the first season. The quick answer is no, but let us break down exactly what that means for fans of the show.

The first season, which came out in April 2023, followed Ali Wong and Steven Yeun as two strangers whose road rage incident turned into a dangerous and long-lasting fight. That season was a huge success, winning eight Emmy awards, four Critics Choice awards, and three Golden Globes.

Now, season two has arrived on April 16, 2026, bringing a completely new setting, new characters, and a different kind of conflict. The show has shifted from parking lot rage to country club politics.

BEEF Season 2 Is an Anthology Series With No Connection to Season 1

BEEF Season 2 does not share the same universe as season one. There are no returning characters, no mentions of Amy Lau or Danny Cho, and no story links between the two seasons.

Showrunner Lee Sung Jin always planned for the show to work this way. He told Netflix’s Tudum, “The intention was always to have it be an anthology. My early pitch to networks included slides with rough examples of potential ‘beefs’ for upcoming seasons”.

Because the future of the show was not certain when they made the first season, they wrote it as a limited series. Lee Sung Jin explained, “We intentionally wrote Season 1 as a limited series, ending that story with a period — Ali Wong and Steven Yeun‘s characters in the hospital bed”.

This means fans should treat each season as its own complete story. The only thing connecting them is the central idea of people getting into intense conflicts.

The New Season Focuses on a Country Club Feud

BEEF Season 2 takes place at Monte Vista Point Country Club, an exclusive and wealthy community. The story follows two couples from different generations who get caught in a messy situation.

The younger couple, Ashley Miller (played by Cailee Spaeny) and Austin Davis (played by Charles Melton), work as lower-level staff at the club. They are engaged and struggling with money problems. Ashley has an ovarian cyst, and her job does not provide health insurance.

The older couple, Joshua Martín (played by Oscar Isaac) and Lindsay Crane-Martín (played by Carey Mulligan), seem to have everything. Josh works as the general manager, and Lindsay is an interior designer.

Everything changes when Ashley and Austin accidentally see a bad fight between Josh and Lindsay. They record the argument and use it to blackmail the older couple for better jobs at the club.

Lee Sung Jin described this season’s conflict differently from the first. He said, “Season 1’s beef is so overt and aggressive. I thought Season 2 should be the inverse: a passive-aggressive beef, which is more true to life, especially in a workplace”.

Star Cast Joins the New Season With Korean Cinema Legends

BEEF Season 2 brings together an impressive group of actors. The main cast includes:

  • Oscar Isaac as Josh
  • Carey Mulligan as Lindsay
  • Charles Melton as Austin
  • Cailee Spaeny as Ashley

The season also features two major Korean film stars. Youn Yuh-jung, who won an Academy Award for Minari, plays Chairwoman Park, the billionaire owner of the country club. Song Kang-ho, known for his work in Parasite, plays Dr. Kim, her second husband.

Steven Yeun, who starred in season one, now works as a producer for the second season. Ali Wong also returns as an executive producer.

Same Theme of Class Conflict Runs Through Both Seasons

While BEEF Season 2 tells a different story, it keeps the same focus on class differences that made the first season so strong.

In season one, Amy was a successful business owner trying to sell her company, while Danny was a contractor with a struggling business. Their different social and economic positions made them blame each other for their own problems.

Season two takes this idea further by showing how money and power work inside a country club. Ashley and Austin need to blackmail their bosses just to get jobs with health insurance. When Ashley finally gets a promotion, she feels like she won a prize for getting basic healthcare.

The season also adds a new layer by showing a Gen Z couple fighting with millennials. Lee Sung Jin said he wanted to switch up expectations: “We thought, ‘What if we actually made them a little bit closer in age and highlight that generational divide?’”.

Austin and Ashley have never faced real problems in their relationship. They think all they need is each other. But when they meet Josh and Lindsay, who have been together for years, everything changes.

Release and Streaming Details

All eight episodes of BEEF Season 2 came out on Netflix on April 16, 2026. Each episode runs about 30 minutes.

For viewers in the United States, the show became available at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET. UK viewers can watch it on Netflix with a subscription. Canadian and Australian audiences also have access to all episodes on the same platform. Indian viewers can stream the full season on Netflix India.

A Netflix subscription is required. The standard plan with ads costs $7.99 per month, while the ad-free plan starts at $17.99 per month.

No Shared Universe Confirmed for Future Seasons

Based on everything shown in both seasons, there is no evidence that BEEF Season 2 exists in the same universe as season one. The show follows the same model as The White Lotus, where each season tells a new story with new characters.

Lee Sung Jin has not ruled out connecting seasons in the future. But for now, each season stands completely on its own. The only link is the theme of ordinary people getting into extraordinary conflicts.

Fans who loved the first season for its raw anger and class commentary will find plenty to enjoy in season two. The setting has changed from roads and parking lots to country clubs and tennis courts. But the rage remains the same.
