Marvel fans finally got what they have been asking for years. Krysten Ritter returned as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Episode 6, titled “Requiem,” dropped on April 21, 2026, on Disney+. But the comeback did not go as many expected. The sarcastic private investigator now has a young daughter and her superpowers are not working properly.
The wait lasted nearly seven years. Jessica Jones last appeared in her own Netflix series which ended in 2019. Now she joins the main Marvel Cinematic Universe with a completely different life situation. She lives in a suburban house instead of her messy office. She protects a child instead of just herself. And her strength sometimes fails when she needs it most.
Jessica Jones Now Has a Daughter Named Danielle in the MCU
The biggest surprise from “Requiem” came early in the episode. Armed agents from Wilson Fisk‘s Anti-Vigilante Task Force storm a quiet house looking for Jessica. Inside the house, a young girl plays with a flash bang grenade like it is a toy. The girl is Danielle, Jessica’s daughter. Twin actresses Annabelle Ivlev and Isabella Ivlev play the role.
Comic book readers immediately recognized the name. Danielle Cage is the daughter of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in the Marvel comics. The episode does not directly name Luke Cage as the father. But Jessica mentions to Matt Murdock that Danielle’s father is away on a secret mission overseas. Mike Colter played Luke Cage in the Netflix series and reports suggest he will appear later in the season.
This change is huge for the character. Jessica Jones never had a child during her three seasons on Netflix. She was always a loner who pushed people away. Now she has someone she cares about more than herself. The show makes this clear when Jessica fights off multiple armed agents while keeping Danielle safe inside the house.
Jessica Jones Powers Are Failing After Childbirth
The return of Jessica Jones comes with another major change. Her super strength is not stable anymore. On a rooftop conversation with Matt Murdock, Jessica admits her powers have not worked the same since she gave birth. She tells him her strength sometimes fades and then comes back without warning.
“I don’t think there’s an owner’s manual for this s**t, you know?” – Jessica Jones to Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 6
The power failure becomes very clear during a warehouse fight scene. Jessica fights AVTF agents alongside Daredevil. In the middle of the battle, her strength cuts out completely. A regular agent named Powell lands a punch that makes her bleed. This should never happen given her normal durability. Jessica Jones can usually take hits that kill normal people.
Some fans are not happy about this change. One writer at Yahoo Entertainment shared their frustration:
“I don’t love the reason why they nerfed her powers. Namely childbirth and being a mother. Motherhood itself is a bit of a superpower, and I don’t love the implications that being a parent somehow made her less powerful.”
Fans React to Krysten Ritter MCU Return
Social media exploded after Episode 6 aired. Viewers expressed excitement about seeing Ritter back as Jessica Jones. But many also questioned the power loss storyline. One user posted on X:
“Jessica Jones’s powers in the current MCU are represented MUCH better. THIS IS TOO GOOD!”
Others worry the show is creating an unnecessary weakness for a character known for her toughness. The debate continues as the season moves toward its final episodes. Some think the power fluctuations add real stakes to fight scenes. Jessica can no longer just punch her way out of every problem. She has to be smarter and more careful.
Krysten Ritter herself spoke about returning to the role. At Disney’s Upfront presentation in May 2025, she shared her excitement:
“It is so great to be back! Returning to Jessica after three seasons and ‘The Defenders,’ and now joining the MCU! I am so excited to bring back this iconic character.”
Why Jessica Jones Powers Might Be Failing in Daredevil Born Again
The show has not fully explained why Jessica’s powers keep failing. But several theories exist among fans and critics. The most likely answer is psychological. Jessica’s emotions have always affected her abilities. The trauma from Kilgrave‘s control in her own series often held her back. Motherhood could be creating new mental blocks.
Another theory suggests something biological happened. The show has not ruled out that giving birth somehow changed her powers. A third idea points to Danielle herself. In the comics, Danielle Cage inherits her father’s unbreakable skin and her mother’s strength. The TV show could be using a new idea where Jessica and Danielle share the power source.
Even with failing powers, Jessica Jones remains dangerous. Her first scene in Episode 6 turns the tables on the AVTF agents. The show keeps the actual violence off-screen. Viewers only hear the sounds of Jessica taking down multiple armed men while protecting her daughter. This choice makes her seem more powerful, not less. The audience gets the attackers’ perspective as they face not just her strength but her reputation.
