South Korean footballer Lee Sang Min recently revealed a humorous and slightly “rude” story about how he tried to meet BTS’ V and secure an autograph while they were both undergoing military enlistment. His recounting of the event sheds light on the excitement and challenges of recognizing a global superstar like V in such a regimented setting.
Lee Sang Min’s Attempt to Spot V in the Training Center
In a video posted on FC Seoul’s official YouTube channel, Lee Sang Min, who was recently discharged from military service, shared his unique experience. About a week after his arrival at the training center, he discovered that BTS’ V had enlisted in the same regiment. Filled with excitement, he thought, “If I’m lucky, I might get to meet V.”
However, finding the K-pop idol among the new recruits proved difficult. All recruits had their heads shaved and wore identical uniforms, making it almost impossible to distinguish one person from another. Despite this challenge, Lee Sang Min was determined to meet the world-famous singer.
Recognizing V by His Shoes
One day, while browsing his phone, Lee Sang Min came across a photo of V entering the training center in the rain. The photo captured V wearing a pair of branded high-top shoes, which became Lee Sang Min’s key to identifying him.
“Every time the trainees gathered for a meal, my gaze was fixed on the ground, searching for the shoes,” Lee Sang Min shared with a laugh. He continued, “Two days later, I was waiting for my fellow unit members in the dining hall. My eyes were on the ground at the time. Someone walked in, and there they were—the shoes I’d been searching for!”
A Brief Encounter with V
Despite the strict military environment, Lee Sang Min managed to spot V, recognizing him not only by his shoes but also by his distinctive eyes. Although it might have been considered “rude,” he couldn’t help but stare at the BTS member. Lee Sang Min confessed:
“I don’t know many K-pop stars, but everyone knows BTS. I was hoping to get his autograph since I didn’t know if I’d get to see him again. But I didn’t have the opportunity.”
The footballer also mentioned that when V, also known as Kim Taehyung, became a squad leader, he had the chance to see him up close a few times. Unfortunately, he never got the opportunity to ask for an autograph.
This story from Lee Sang Min is yet another testament to the global fame and influence of BTS. Even within the strict and disciplined environment of the military, V’s presence created a buzz, not just among fellow soldiers, but even among those who might not typically follow K-pop.
