The April 14, 2026 episode of NCIS: Origins brought viewers a heartbreaking end to Lala Dominguez’s secret romance. Episode 15, titled “Johnny B. Goode,” showed Lala (Mariel Molino) putting everything on the line to pull her boyfriend Manny (Miguel Gomez) out of gang life. Instead of a happy ending, her rescue mission backfired and ended their relationship for good.
The episode centered on Lala’s dangerous double life. She had been hiding her relationship with Manny, who worked as a driver for gang leader Flaco Navarro. Lala told her coworkers that her boyfriend was a chef named Johnny. The truth was far more risky. Manny belonged to the 63rd Street Chacales gang, and if anyone at NIS found out, Lala would lose her career. If Flaco found out, Manny would lose his life.
Lala’s Dangerous Plan to Save Manny From Gang Life
Lala knew the only way to get Manny out was to take down Flaco. She pushed Manny to give her information about Flaco’s crimes. Manny resisted at first. He did not want Flaco to get the electric chair. Despite everything, Flaco was the only family he had left. They grew up together, and Flaco brought Manny into the gang after Manny’s mother went to prison.
Manny had one rule he never broke. He refused to kill anyone. Flaco respected this boundary. But that respect would disappear in a second if Flaco learned about Manny’s relationship with a federal agent.
Lala finally convinced Manny to give her one murder. He told her about Rico Luna, Flaco’s biggest rival. Flaco and Luna agreed to meet for peace talks. Instead, Flaco killed Luna and dumped his body behind a warehouse.
Lala told her team she received a tip about a murder. She led them to the warehouse where she “found” Luna’s body. The team split up to search the area. Gunmen in a black car opened fire on them. Nobody got a good look at the shooters or the license plate. Lala knew it was probably Flaco’s men trying to silence anyone connected to the investigation.
Gibbs Uncovers the Truth About Lala’s Secret Boyfriend
Gibbs (Austin Stowell) started asking questions. He wanted to know how the tipster knew about the body. He also wondered if the same person told Flaco’s men that NIS would be at the warehouse. Lala’s answers did not satisfy him.
Gibbs put the pieces together. He went to Vera Strickland (Diany Rodriguez) with his suspicions about Lala’s boyfriend “Johnny.” Together, they confronted Lala. Gibbs warned her to walk away from Manny. He believed he was protecting her. But Lala refused to back down. She truly believed she could save the man she loved.
“She decides she wants to do something; there’s no stopping her.” – Gibbs on Lala’s determination
Gibbs did not stop there. He tracked down Manny and confronted him alone. This was not an agent talking to a witness. This felt personal. Many viewers saw Gibbs’ actions as jealousy, not professionalism. His confrontation pushed Manny to make a desperate choice.
FBI Discovers Weapons and Forces Manny’s Hand
The FBI found a stash of weapons connected to Flaco. Manny knew this evidence would tie him to murders and destroy any chance of a normal life. Gibbs tried to convince Manny to leave Lala. Instead, Manny called Flaco.
During that call, Flaco realized Manny was the informant. He did not kill Manny right away. He planned to target Lala instead. Manny could not let that happen. For the first time in his life, he picked up a gun. He shot Flaco to protect Lala.
Lala found Manny standing over Flaco’s body with the weapon. She tried to protect him. But the DNA evidence was too weak to convict Flaco for Luna’s murder. The case was falling apart.
Witness Protection Saves Manny but Ends Their Love Story
Gibbs stepped in to fix the situation. He worked with Swanson to arrange witness protection for Manny. This deal saved Manny’s life. But it came with a heavy price. He could never see Lala again.
“I let people get too close. I mean, the lines are there for a reason.” – Lala Dominguez
The episode ended with Lala facing the consequences of getting too close to someone she was trying to save. Manny drove away to start a new life with a new identity. Lala kept his Impala and finally overcame her fear of driving after racing to reach him in time.
Mike Franks Provides Comic Relief With Swanson Romance
Not every moment was heavy. Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid) provided much-needed laughs throughout the episode. He developed a clear crush on Swanson. Franks talked about his body releasing a special scent when ready for female company. His best friend Mary Jo (Tyla Abercrumbie) told him she was immune to it. Franks replied, “You’re immune because you’re my best friend, Mary Jo.”
Randy (Caleb Foote) hyped up Franks the whole time. The comic duo made viewers smile even during the sad moments. By the end of the episode, Swanson seemed to give in to Franks’ charm.

What This Episode Means for Lala Going Forward
Lala walked away from “Johnny B. Goode” believing that emotional connections only lead to pain. Her relationship with Gibbs never worked out. He pushed her away after her accident, did not visit her, started dating someone else, and got married. Then her relationship with Manny ended in tragedy.
She told Twitchy Tony that she lets people get too close. The lines exist for a reason. But Tony reminded her that connecting with people is also her greatest strength as an agent. She does not approach people from a high position. She connects with them as equals.
The episode was written by Gina Lucita Monreal and directed by Anthony Hemingway. It aired on CBS at 9:00 PM ET/PT and is available for streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Premium plan subscribers, or on demand the next day for Essential subscribers).
