Netflix is adding another book adaptation to its growing list of Spanish productions. The Map of Longing (original title El mapa de los anhelos) comes from writer Alice Kellen’s popular novel. The limited series will premiere on July 17, 2026.
The story follows Greta, a young woman who loses her sister Lucy to leukemia. Before dying, Lucy creates a special game called “The Map of Longing” to help Greta find her own path in life. The show mixes grief, self-discovery, and a new romance.
Here is a complete guide to the main cast and the characters they play.
Alícia Falcó Plays Greta, the Sister Searching for Meaning After Loss
Alícia Falcó takes on the lead role of Greta. This is her biggest project to date. The Spanish actress has built a solid career in horror and drama films before landing this Netflix series.
You might recognize Falcó from movies like 13 Exorcisms, In the Company of Women, and the series Billionaires’ Bunker. She also appeared in Tell Me Softly and Eighteen.
Greta grows up believing her only purpose is to save her older sister Lucy. She was born to be a stem cell donor for Lucy’s leukemia treatment. When Lucy dies anyway, Greta loses her sense of identity. She feels empty and does not know who she is without this mission. The game Lucy leaves behind pushes Greta to face her pain and discover what she truly wants from life.
Pablo Álvarez Takes the Role of Will, the Mysterious Love Interest
Pablo Álvarez plays Will, the enigmatic young man Greta meets during her grief journey. Álvarez is both an actor and a director in Spanish cinema.
His past work includes roles in Memento Mori, La Favorita 1922, and the long-running Spanish series Cuéntame cómo pasó. Will comes with his own troubled past. The character challenges Greta with a deep question: can someone truly love another person if they do not love themselves first?
Georgina Amorós Returns to Netflix as Lucy, the Sister Who Dies Too Soon
Georgina Amorós is no stranger to Netflix audiences. She played Cayetana on the hit Spanish series Elite from 2019 to 2020. Her character started as a scholarship student who faked a wealthy lifestyle on social media.
Amorós has built an impressive resume since then. She appeared in Woody Allen’s film Rifkin’s Festival and the political thriller Project Emperor. In 2025, she took on her first French-language role in Toutes Pour Une. She also acted in Velvet and Vis a Vis early in her career.
In The Map of Longing, Amorós plays Lucy, Greta’s older sister who dies from leukemia. Even though Lucy passes away early in the story, her presence stays with Greta through the game she created before dying.
The Supporting Cast Brings More Depth to the Series
Several well-known Spanish actors fill out the rest of the cast.
Laia Marull joins the project. She has starred in films like La tierra negra and La inocencia. Mario de la Rosa also appears in the series. Money Heist fans will recognize him from the global Netflix hit. He also acted in Welcome to Eden.
Ramón Barea rounds out the main supporting cast. His film credits include Cuatro paredes and Everybody Knows.
Who Is Making The Map of Longing?
Two directors work together on this limited series. Laura M. Campos and Gemma Ferraté share directing duties. Isa Sánchez wrote the screenplay adaptation. The production company Brutal Media handles the series, with Arlette Peyret and Raimon Masllorens serving as executive producers.
The series adapts Alice Kellen’s novel, which was first published by Editorial Planeta. The book already has a strong fan base in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.
