JTBC has added two more names to its upcoming Korean remake of the British series “Gold Digger.” Cha Hak Yeon, also known as VIXX‘s N, and Kim Ji Eun will play siblings in this mystery romance drama. They join previously confirmed leads Kim Hee Ae and Noh Sang Hyun. The production team confirmed their casting on April 23.
The Korean “Gold Digger” is a remake of the BBC One series that first aired in 2019. The story follows a dangerous young man who approaches a successful middle-aged woman. Viewers will watch the pair constantly question each other’s true feelings. The central question throughout the show is whether his intentions come from real love or a clever deception.
Kim Hee Ae Returns to JTBC After Six Years
Kim Hee Ae stars as Min Young Joo, a CEO of a publishing company. This marks her return to JTBC for the first time since “The World of the Married” in 2020. That drama broke past 30 percent viewership ratings and set records for non-terrestrial networks in Korea.
Noh Sang Hyun plays Jung Jae Hee, a freelance designer with dangerous charm. He is currently appearing in MBC‘s “Perfect Crown.” “Gold Digger” will be his first JTBC drama.
The age gap between the two leads is 23 years. Kim Hee Ae was born in 1967, and Noh Sang Hyun was born in 1990. This is not the first time Kim Hee Ae has taken on a romance with a younger co-star. She previously starred with Yoo Ah In, who is 19 years younger, in JTBC‘s “Secret Affair” back in 2014.
Cha Hak Yeon and Kim Ji Eun Play Protective Siblings
Cha Hak Yeon and Kim Ji Eun will play the son and daughter of Kim Hee Ae‘s character. Their sibling dynamic will add another important layer to the story.
From the children’s point of view, watching their successful mother fall for a man close to their own age creates serious family tension. They will have to decide if the young man truly loves their mother or if he is running a long con. This family conflict will likely become a major driving force for the drama.
Reports also indicate that actor Park Soo Oh may join the cast as the youngest son. If confirmed, this would complete a three-sibling lineup for Min Young Joo‘s family.
What Is “Gold Digger” About?
The term “gold digger” refers to someone who dates another person mainly for money. The Korean remake keeps this core idea while adding a psychological thriller element. The drama shows a tense back-and-forth between two people who keep doubting and misunderstanding each other.
The production team shared their thoughts on the show.
“The story of the mysterious man Jung Jae Hee, who appears before the lonely publisher Min Young Joo, will deliver an unmissable dopamine rush. Viewers will also enjoy the fun of various interpretations and speculation surrounding Jung Jae Hee‘s true intentions in a relationship where love and suspicion intersect.”
