The wait is finally over for the Bigg Boss 20 house tour. The makers have given everyone a first look at the new house, and this time, the design is completely different from anything seen before. The house is inspired by Alice in Wonderland, featuring dreamlike decor, quirky furniture, and a mysterious Room 20 that has everyone guessing. Hosted by Salman Khan, the show is set to premiere on September 6 on JioHotstar and Colors TV. The house covers 10,000 square feet and has 104 cameras watching every move.
This season marks a big change behind the scenes. For the first time in 19 years, Omung Kumar is not designing the house. The new art director is Varsha Jain, who has previously designed Bigg Boss houses in South India. Jain has brought her own colourful and theatrical style to the Hindi version of the show. She also created the set for Anil Kapoor’s India Ke Top 1 Percent.
Alice in Wonderland Theme Takes Over the House
The Bigg Boss 20 house is built around the idea of duality, where nothing is quite what it seems. The entire space has an Alice in Wonderland feel, with bright colours, surreal designs, and objects that look familiar but serve unexpected purposes. Every wall has a different colour palette, from the bedroom to the living area to the exterior.
The most eye-catching element is a giant pink teapot that appears to pour into a couch. This unusual piece of furniture turns a kitchen object into a seating space. Another standout is a magnificent octopus holding chess pieces in its tentacles. This installation brings together the unpredictability of the ocean and the strategy of chess, reflecting the psychological gameplay of Bigg Boss.
A hot-air balloon has been turned into a cosy seating area. Usually associated with flight and escape, the balloon now serves as a functional space for contestants. A floral tap with flowers emerging from it adds another surreal touch. The garden area features a shark-themed swimming pool and a giant snake wrapped around a tree that doubles as seating.
The Mad Hatter and Surreal Decor Elements
At the heart of the house is a Mad Hatter figure, which was the first element Jain imagined for the space. The Mad Hatter seems to invite everyone into the house, creating a whimsical and mysterious atmosphere. The entrance also features a ringmaster statue, and contestants have to walk through its legs to enter the living area.
The bedroom continues the fantasy theme with pastel shades, oversized mushrooms, floral patterns, and a detailed hanging chandelier. There are eight beds in total, including two large beds that can accommodate three contestants each. The centre of the bedroom has a beehive-like prop hanging from the ceiling.
The washroom area is kept simple this season. It features a neon pink bunny rabbit standing upside down, with chimpanzees hanging above the space. The living room has a 12-seater dining table designed like a giant Snakes and Ladders board. Messages hanging above the TV add a fun touch, with lines like “Make every life count” and “Tathas 2”.
The Mystery of Room 20 and Room 2X
The biggest talking point this season is the introduction of Room No. 20. This room replaces the assembly room from last year. Its purpose has been kept completely secret, and neither contestants nor viewers know what is inside. The room is designed to hold a surprise, but the exact nature of that surprise will only be revealed after the show goes on air.
Alongside Room 20, there is also a mysterious Room 2X. This room has two doors: one regular-sized door and one mini door. According to sources, Room 2X is connected to a high-pressure challenge called Jeevandaan. Contestants may be placed in pressure pods and asked to reveal a truth or make a confession. The one who survives the challenge could get an extra lifeline in the game.
Art director Varsha Jain explained the vision behind the house:
“Designing the Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20 house was about creating a world that constantly challenges perception. We wanted to explore the idea of duality by taking objects and symbols that audiences instantly recognise and reimagining them in unexpected ways so that a teapot becomes a couch, an octopus becomes a chess player, and a hot-air balloon becomes a space to gather.”
Jain added that every element was designed to feel familiar at first but reveal something unexpected when you look closer. The eyes incorporated throughout the house represent the essence of Bigg Boss — the feeling that nothing goes unseen. She said:
“Ultimately, we wanted the house to feel like stepping into a dreamscape, where reality and imagination coexist, and every space offers a discovery.”
Kitchen, Pool and Other Key Areas
The kitchen area this year is designed like a food truck. The kitchen table has two wheels underneath, with a “BB Food Truck” banner on top. The kitchen is where contestants will cook, argue over portions, and discuss strategies while pretending to talk about food.
The garden area has a shark-themed swimming pool and a floral tap beside it. A giant gorilla stands at the washroom entrance, and a snake wrapped around a tree creates an interesting seating option. The outdoor section also includes a workout space and a lawn.

The house also includes visual reminders of constant surveillance, with eyes appearing prominently across the design. This makes the sense of being watched part of the decor itself. The confession room remains a mystery, with a glittering, almost surreal passage leading to it, filled with tiny lamps and mirrors.
Bigg Boss 20 premieres on September 6 at 9 PM on JioHotstar and 10:30 PM on Colors TV. The show will bring 20 contestants into this surreal world where nothing is quite what it seems.
