Three years after Moon Knight debuted on Disney+, fans are still waiting for news about a second season. Oscar Isaac, who played Marc Spector and his alternate identities, is now speaking up about wanting to come back to the MCU. But the path forward for the character might look different than what viewers expect.
The first season of Moon Knight arrived on March 30, 2022, earning strong reviews with an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 88% audience rating. The show ended with a scene teasing a third personality named Jake Lockley, leaving many questions unanswered. Yet Marvel has not confirmed any plans for a direct sequel series.
Oscar Isaac Confirms Midnight Sons Movie Talks Are Happening
The actor recently shared on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that conversations about a Midnight Sons project have taken place. This team-up movie would bring together supernatural MCU characters like Moon Knight, Blade (played by Mahershala Ali), and potentially Ghost Rider.
Isaac explained that what drew him to Moon Knight was the chance to seriously explore dissociative identity disorder (DID). He wants any future appearance to keep that same respectful approach.
“There’s a very tonally…it’s really important, because we’re playing with real stuff. It’s expressing something very real and challenging and difficult.”
The actor emphasized that even though the comic book source material is “crazy,” the subject matter needs to be handled with care. For Isaac, the creative freedom to build something meaningful matters more than just showing up for a paycheck.
Marvel TV Head Says No Season 2 Plans Right Now
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, told Comic Book that the company does have future plans for Moon Knight. However, a second season of the Disney+ show is not currently part of those plans.
This matches what the show’s director Mohamed Diab and Isaac themselves said before the first season even aired. They both downplayed the chances of a traditional season two from the beginning. The Moon Knight series was designed more as a standalone story that could lead into other projects rather than an ongoing show.
Isaac Wants Ghost Rider Team-Up with Ryan Gosling
During the same podcast conversation, Oscar Isaac threw his support behind the fan idea of Ryan Gosling playing Ghost Rider. Gosling and Isaac previously worked together on the 2011 movie Drive.
Isaac joked about how the team-up could work on screen, saying his Moon Knight and Mahershala Ali’s Blade could sit behind Gosling’s Ghost Rider on his motorcycle and “hold him tight”. He also called on fans to make posters showing the three characters together.
Ryan Gosling has already confirmed that talks about him taking the Ghost Rider role did happen. He described the situation as “complicated” but added, “We keep hope alive.”
Where Moon Knight Could Appear Next Instead
Rumors suggest that Moon Knight might show up in a different Marvel project before any team-up movie. Some reports point to the character’s next story being set in New York City, which could open the door for an appearance on Daredevil: Born Again.
Jeremy Renner also recently shared that a planned second season of Hawkeye got scrapped. That cancellation could potentially open space for other street-level heroes like Moon Knight to get more attention.
The Moon Knight season one finale left viewers with a clear setup for more stories. Jake Lockley, the third and more violent personality, appeared in a post-credits scene where he confronted Arthur Harrow (played by Ethan Hawke). This unresolved plot thread continues to bother fans who want answers.
Isaac Sets Conditions for MCU Return
While Oscar Isaac says he is open to coming back, he has clear requirements. The actor recalled advice Willem Dafoe once gave him about choosing projects. Dafoe said he looks for “space” to create something, adding, “If I’m just performing something, I don’t want it. I want to have space to create.”
Isaac applies the same thinking to Moon Knight. He wants the creative room to build the character further, not just repeat what worked in season one. The serious treatment of DID remains a key factor for him.
One potential roadblock involves Isaac’s recent comments about working with Disney. The actor expressed frustration with the company’s decisions, though he clarified he would still consider returning to the role under the right circumstances.

What This Means for Moon Knight Fans
The situation looks different from other MCU shows. Loki got a second season. What If…? continued for multiple seasons. But Moon Knight appears headed toward movies instead of more television episodes.
For viewers who want to watch or rewatch the first season, Moon Knight remains available on Disney+ in USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions where the streaming service operates.
Marvel Studios has not announced an official release date for any project featuring Moon Knight at this time. The Midnight Sons movie remains unconfirmed by the studio despite Isaac confirming that conversations have occurred.
