A new documentary series is getting ready to change how people see Princess Diana. The three-part show called Diana: The Unheard Truth will bring out never-before-heard audio recordings of the Princess talking about her life inside the royal family.
The series lands on August 31, 2027. That date marks 30 years since Diana died in a Paris car crash in 1997. The show comes from Love Monday TV and 53 Degrees Global, the same team behind royal shows like Netflix’s The Royal House of Windsor.
Five Hours Of Secret Recordings From 1991
Back in 1991, Diana secretly recorded conversations with her close friend Dr. James Colthurst. She talked openly about her marriage falling apart, her struggles, and what she thought would happen next. Colthurst snuck the tapes out of Kensington Palace and gave them to writer Andrew Morton. Morton used them to write the 1992 book Diana: Her True Story.
But here is the thing. In all these years since Diana died, less than one hour of those tapes ever reached the public. The rest just sat there. Until now.
Love Monday TV worked with Morton and Colthurst to get full access to all five hours of recordings for this series.
What Diana Says On The Unheard Tapes
The tapes show a different side of Princess Diana. Producers say she comes across as strong, smart, and funny, not just a victim of her difficult marriage.
“Through the tapes, we come to know a resilient, perceptive, and relatable young woman, finding herself in the brightest of global spotlights, and navigating the challenges with grace, self-awareness, and determination,” Love Monday TV said in a statement.
Diana talks about her fight with bulimia. She opens up about her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. She even mentions attempts. She also shares her thoughts about King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Sarah Ferguson, and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (the former Prince Andrew).
One stunning part? Diana correctly predicted that Charles and Camilla would marry one day. She talked about wanting a future where Charles goes “off into the sunset with Camilla” so she could finally carve her own path.
“Viewers will be astounded to hear how accurate she was in predicting the future,” Love Monday TV told The Hollywood Reporter.
Real Voices, Not Actors
Diana: The Unheard Truth does not use actors or reenactments. The series lets Diana speak for herself through her own voice. But the show also brings in people who actually knew her.
The contributor list includes:
- Delissa Needham – Diana’s prep schoolmate, speaking on camera for the first time
- Sam McKnight – Her hairdresser throughout the 1990s
- Penny Thornton – Her personal astrologer
- Richard Kay – Daily Mail journalist and close confidante
- Ken Wharfe – Her former bodyguard
- Dickie Arbiter – Former royal press secretary
- Wayne Sleep – Dancer and friend
- Kent Gavin – Photographer
These voices help fill in the picture of who Diana really was behind the global headlines.

Streaming And Where To Watch
Right now, no streaming platform has been officially named for Diana: The Unheard Truth. The show is being sold to networks and streaming services worldwide. Given how big Princess Diana remains with audiences, major platforms like Netflix, Apple TV+, or Amazon are likely contenders.
The series is fully paid for by Rainmaker Films and Plymouth Films. Sophie Todd serves as series editor, with Emily Hirst producing and Justin Frahm handling cinematography.
The three episodes will cover different parts of Diana‘s public and private life, all built around those raw, personal recordings from 1991.
