The South Korean broadcaster SBS has finally spoken about the future of its hit action-drama Agent Kim Reactivated. While the network has not given a green light for a second season, its recent comments have given fans a strong reason to stay hopeful.
The drama, which marks So Ji-sub‘s return to SBS after 13 years, has become a massive success. Within just four episodes, the series crossed the 20% viewership mark, making it one of the most-watched dramas on the network in recent years. This success has naturally led to loud calls from viewers for more episodes, especially since the show is planned for only 10 episodes.
On July 6, an SBS representative addressed the growing demand for a potential Season 2. The network confirmed that while no official plans exist yet, they recognize the show’s potential to grow into a multi-season format.
“Nothing has officially been discussed yet. However, since it is a drama that could certainly continue as a multi-season series, I think viewers’ expectations are growing.”
The Numbers That Started the Season 2 Conversation
Agent Kim Reactivated premiered on June 26 with a solid nationwide rating of 9.5%. But the numbers did not stop there. The show’s ratings climbed with each episode:
- Episode 2 jumped to 15.7%, making it the fastest drama in five years to cross the 15% mark.
- Episode 3 reached 18.8%.
- Episode 4 hit an impressive 21.6% nationwide.
With this performance, the series now holds the third-highest rating for any Friday-Saturday drama in SBS history. It stands behind only The Penthouse 2 (29.2%) and The Fiery Priest (22%).
The drama has also performed well globally. It currently ranks as the No. 3 non-English TV show on Netflix worldwide, proving its appeal extends far beyond South Korea.
So Ji-sub Pushes for a Seasonal Format
The lead actor himself has been one of the strongest voices calling for a second season. During the SBS DRAMA: NEXT EPISODE media day on June 1, So Ji-sub made his feelings clear about the show’s future.
“Honestly, I don’t have much desire to win awards. I think I’d be happier if the drama continued as a multi-season series.”
The actor, who debuted with SBS in 1996 through the drama Model, has a deep history with the network. He called SBS his “hometown” and expressed comfort working with them again. His comments show that the cast is just as eager as the fans to continue the story.
A Short Run That Leaves Fans Wanting More
One major reason for the Season 2 discussions is the drama’s short episode count. Agent Kim Reactivated is scheduled to run for only 10 episodes, ending on July 25. This means the show has only a few weeks left on air.
Many within the industry and among viewers feel the show is ending too soon. Reports suggest that even SBS officials have expressed regret over the short run. The quick pace of the story has helped drive the ratings up, but it has also left fans wishing for a longer experience.
What the Show Is About
For those unfamiliar, Agent Kim Reactivated is a father-universe revenge action drama. The story follows Manager Kim (played by So Ji-sub), a single father who appears to be an ordinary bank manager. But he has a hidden past as an elite spy.
When his daughter Min Ji (played by Seo Su Min) is kidnapped, Kim is forced to leave his peaceful life behind. He returns to the dangerous world of covert operations to save her. The show combines high-energy action with emotional family drama.
The series also features a strong supporting cast, including Choi Dae-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho, Joo Sang-wook, and Son Na-eun. The drama is based on a popular webtoon and is part of the larger PTJ Universe, which connects to other popular webtoon series.

What SBS’s Statement Really Means
The network’s statement is careful but carries a positive tone. By acknowledging that the drama “could certainly continue as a multi-season series,” SBS has left the door wide open. The network is known for its “season system,” having produced multiple seasons for several hit shows in the past.
The fact that they are speaking about this possibility just four episodes into the first season shows that they are taking the show’s success very seriously. The statement does not confirm a second season, but it does confirm that the network is aware of the demand and is not shutting down the idea.
Fans have also pointed out that the show’s high ratings came at a time when traditional TV is losing viewers to streaming platforms. This makes the achievement even more notable and increases the chances of the network wanting to continue the franchise.
Global Streaming Success Adds to the Momentum
The show is available on Netflix in many regions, with new episodes dropping every Friday and Saturday. Its strong performance on the global platform adds another layer of success that SBS will likely consider when making future decisions about the series.
The combination of strong domestic ratings, international popularity, and cast interest creates a strong case for a second season. While nothing is official yet, the current situation looks very promising for fans who want to see more of Manager Kim’s story.
Episode 5 of Agent Kim Reactivated aired on July 10. Viewers can watch new episodes on SBS and stream them on Netflix.
