The next episode of IT: Welcome to Derry is shaping up to be a major turning point. The official promo for Episode 7 suggests fans will finally see the tragic origin of Pennywise the Clown while a deadly confrontation erupts in 1960s Derry. With only two episodes left in the season, the story is accelerating toward a violent climax that connects directly to Stephen King’s original novel.

The series, which serves as a prequel to the 2017 and 2019 IT films, has been building this mystery since October. Episode 6, which aired on November 30, 2025, ended with the racist Maine Legion of White Decency surrounding Dick Hallorann’s bar, The Black Spot, demanding that Hank Grogan be handed over. Meanwhile, new revelations about the clown’s human past have set the stage for a deep dive into horror history.

What the Episode 7 Promo Reveals

The preview for the upcoming episode focuses heavily on the past. It opens in the year 1908, showing Bob Gray before he was overtaken by the evil entity known as IT. In these scenes, his clown makeup appears normal, not the demonic face audiences recognize as Pennywise. This suggests Episode 7 will depict the moment the ancient evil either consumed the man or possessed his body.

The promo also includes a touching yet eerie moment where Bob Gray teaches his young daughter, Ingrid, how to perform her clown routine. She practices poses for “Periwinkle the clown,” her own performing persona. This humanizes the monster and adds a tragic layer to the story of a father and daughter connected by the circus.

The Dark Truth About Ingrid Kersh

Episode 6 confirmed a major fan theory: Ingrid Kersh, the head of housekeeping at Juniper Hill Asylum, is actually Ingrid Gray, Bob Gray’s daughter. Portrayed by Madeleine Stowe, Ingrid believes her father is not dead but is instead possessed by the creature. This belief has driven her to a terrible act.

It was revealed that she knowingly led children to Pennywise, sacrificing them just for a chance to speak with the being she thinks contains her father’s spirit. The episode also confirmed that the clown stalking the children in the graveyard in an earlier episode was not Pennywise, but Ingrid herself in her Periwinkle costume. This twist means Derry has been haunted by two clownsโ€”one supernatural, and one all too human.

The 1962 Standoff at The Black Spot

While the past unfolds, the present-day 1962 story reaches a boiling point. The promo shows that the tense standoff at The Black Spot will continue. Army officers who are protecting Hank Grogan face off against the armed, racist mob at the bar’s doors.

This event is a direct adaptation of a key piece of Derry lore mentioned in both Stephen King’s book and the 2017 movie. The fate of The Black Spot is historically grim, suggesting Episode 7 could feature one of the series’ most intense and brutal sequences yet.

The Road to the Finale

Episode 7, titled “The Black Spot,” is the penultimate episode of the season. The first season of Welcome to Derry will conclude with Episode 8 on December 14, 2025. Director Andy Muschietti has indicated that if the series continues, the story is designed to move backwards in time. A potential second season would explore the 1935 Bradley Gang massacre, another bloody event in Derry’s history.

The series represents a significant expansion of the IT mythology established by the Muschietti siblings. While the novel describes IT as an ancient entity that crashed to Earth, the show introduces a more complex human history for the form it takes. By exploring the life of Bob Gray and the tragedy of his daughter, the show adds a new dimension to the terror of Pennywise.
