The Portuguese crime drama Turn of the Tide dropped its third and final season on April 10, 2026. The show brings the story of Eduardo and his friends to a close after three seasons of drugs, betrayal, and fighting for their island home. Season three picks up three years after the events of season two, with Eduardo (José Condessa) getting out of prison and looking for payback.

The ending of Turn of the Tide Season 3 delivers one of the most unexpected getaways in recent TV memory. Just when the police have the Night Vigilantes surrounded, a volcano erupts and saves them. Nature gives Eduardo and his crew the perfect chance to disappear without a trace.

Eduardo Returns to a Changed Island After Prison Time

José Condessa leads the cast as Eduardo, who spent three years in prison for a crime he did not commit. His friend Silvia actually killed the drug lord Fagner, but Eduardo took the blame. When he gets out, nothing looks the same. The fishing industry is dying because too many cruise ships have polluted the waters. Local fishermen are losing their jobs and selling their homes.

The show is based on a true story from 2001, when a boat full of cocaine washed up near Rabo de Peixe in the Azores. What started as a lucky find for four friends turned into a nightmare of violence and loss. The third season shows Eduardo trying to fix the damage done to his community.

The main cast for Turn of the Tide Season 3 includes Helena Caldeira as Silvia, Rodrigo Tomás as Rafael, and André Leitão as Carlinhos. New villain Joaquim de Almeida joins as Canto Muniz, the wealthy businessman destroying the island for profit.

The Night Vigilantes Become the Voice of the People

Eduardo and his friends create a masked group called the Night Vigilantes. They wear balaclavas and target criminals who have been hurting the community. What starts as a small operation grows into something much bigger. Regular people start seeing the vigilantes as heroes, not criminals.

The group’s main goal is finding out who stole their cocaine shipment at the end of season two. That search leads Eduardo directly to Canto Muniz. The businessman stole the drugs, sold them, and used the money to buy land across San Miguel. He knew a new port would make property prices go up, so he pushed local fishermen out of their homes by destroying their fishing grounds.

Muniz also funds the political campaign of Cristina Brum. She runs for office promising to fix crime and help the economy. But she is just a puppet. If she wins, Muniz gets his port approved and gains political control over the island. Eduardo learns all of this and decides to expose everything publicly.

Paula’s Search for Her Daughter Ends in Tragedy

Maria João Bastos plays Paula Frias, the former police inspector. Her daughter Mariana was taken at the end of season two while Paula was chasing Eduardo. For three years, she has been searching without any luck. She is no longer a cop, but she still acts like one, beating up criminals to get information.

Her search connects to two small-time criminals named Billy Bob and Natercia. Eduardo tricks them into joining the Night Vigilantes and drugs them. He hands them over to Paula so she can get answers. What she learns destroys her completely. The two criminals admit they were only supposed to steal documents from her house, but her daughter was there. They killed her and buried the body.

Paula forces them to take her to the burial site. When she sees her daughter’s body, something breaks inside her. She kills both criminals on the spot. Then she goes after Banha, the dirty cop who sent them to her house. During the fight, Banha shoots Paula. She did not even bring a weapon because she only wanted to confront him, not kill him.

The Volcanic Eruption Gives the Night Vigilantes Their Escape

The finale episode of Turn of the Tide Season 3 builds to a big public showdown. Eduardo gets invited to speak at Brum’s campaign event. Muniz thinks Eduardo can help win votes. But Eduardo has other plans. He sneaks the whole Night Vigilante group into the event dressed in formal clothes. He hides a revolver in the bathroom.

When Eduardo gets on stage, he takes Muniz hostage. On live television, he exposes everything. The drug money, the political tricks, the destruction of the island’s fishing industry. Silvia convinces Brum to turn against Muniz and claim she was tricked. The damage is done. Muniz’s reputation is destroyed in front of everyone.

But the police are right there. They surround the building. Eduardo and the Night Vigilantes have no way out. Arrest seems certain. Then the ground starts shaking. The volcano near the island erupts without warning. Ash fills the sky. Panic spreads everywhere. The police hesitate because no one expected a volcano to explode right at that moment.

That small hesitation gives Eduardo and his group the chance to run. They escape into the chaos. The police cannot chase them because the eruption is getting worse. Nature literally steps in to save the Night Vigilantes from going back to prison.

The Friends Reflect on the Lives They Could Have Had

After escaping, the group goes back to Eduardo’s house. Ash covers the whole island. They decide to go swimming on Eduardo’s boat. Out on the water, each person talks about what their life could have been if things had gone differently. Rafael imagines being a football star. Carlinhos dreams of a successful music career. Silvia wants a proper balance between work and family.

Eduardo cannot picture a better version of his life. All he can think about is what he lost. His parents and his uncle Joe are gone. The island is covered in volcanic ash. But Silvia points out one good thing. The port will definitely not get built now. Muniz’s entire plan is destroyed by the volcano. The island is saved by nature itself.

The final shot shows the friends jumping into the ocean as ash continues to fall. They survived everything. The drugs, the violence, the police, and even a volcano. Turn of the Tide Season 3 ends with the group still together, having escaped one last time.
