Fans of Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender can now mark their calendars. The streaming service has confirmed that production on the entire series has officially concluded, with the second and third seasons filmed back-to-back. Both new seasons are now in post-production and are expected to arrive on Netflix in 2026, bringing Aang’s epic journey to its conclusion.

The confirmation came with a social media post from Netflix showing the show’s core cast together. The photo featured Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko), Miya Cech (Toph), and Maria Zhang (Suki). The post teased that “exciting season 2 updates are coming very soon.”

Production Officially Concludes on a High Note

The massive production for the final two seasons is now complete. Filming for Season 2 wrapped in May 2025, and the cast and crew immediately began work on the third and final season. With this final wrap, the entire live-action adaptation of Aang’s story has been fully shot.

Executive producer and writer Christine Boylan shared a statement celebrating the team’s effort. She noted that when they started Season 2, they were guided by “integrity, hope, and joy.”

“When we started working on Season 2, we gathered three forces: integrity, hope, and joy. And here we are, almost three years later, wrapping the end of production with an immensely talented and devoted team that met those ideals and exceeded them,” Boylan told Netflix TUDUM.

Actor Ian Ousley, who plays Sokka, expressed his feelings on Instagram after filming ended, writing, “Love this show and these people more than Iโ€™m capable of expressing.”

What to Expect in the Upcoming Seasons

While specific plot details are under wraps, the upcoming seasons will continue to follow Aang on his quest to master all four elements and bring balance to a world at war with the Fire Nation. Season 2 will introduce the fan-favorite character Toph Beifong, the master earthbender played by Miya Cech.

The story is confirmed to be a three-season arc that will conclude Aang’s story. The show’s creators have previously stated they plan to show “the real-world versions of iconic scenes” from the original animated series while also exploring some stories the animation did not have time for.

Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Fire Lord Ozai, promised the show would return in a big way. He mentioned that the scale of the production grows with each season.

“We’re in the first block of Season 3, and what I can say about the show is that each season grows in scale. If you thought Season 1 was big, wait till you see Season 3,” Kim said in an interview.

A Look Back at the Series’ Success

The live-action adaptation premiered on Netflix in February 2024. While it received mixed reviews from critics, it was a major hit with audiences. In its first week, the series soared to the top of Netflix’s charts, accumulating 154.4 million hours watched and reaching 21.2 million views. This performance even surpassed the debut of Netflix’s popular One Piece live-action adaptation.

The strong viewership led Netflix to renew the show for two more seasons, ensuring the story would be told in full. The first season ended with a major cliffhanger, showing Princess Azula conquering the Earth Kingdom city of Omashu and a mid-credit scene revealing that Sozin’s Comet was on the horizon.

With filming complete, the focus now shifts to post-production, which includes visual effects, sound design, and editing for both seasons. While Netflix has not announced a specific premiere date, all signs point to 2026 for the return of the Avatar.
