The final season of The Boys is almost here, and fans are worried about one character more than others. A-Train, played by Jessie T. Usher, has gone from a selfish speedster to a surprising hero. But his change of heart might cost him his life.
With The Boys Season 5 arriving on April 8, 2026, viewers are asking a big question. Will the show kill off its fastest supe right when he finally did the right thing? The signs from the show’s stars, the comic books, and even the trailer are not looking good for Reggie Franklin.
Karl Urban Warns Nobody Is Safe in the Final Episodes
Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, told Variety that the final season starts with major deaths right away. He said, “Every season, but particularly this season, from Episode 1, you’re like, ‘Oh wow!’ Nobody is safe. Fatalities right from the get-go. Let’s go! Last season! It’s all on!”
This warning has made fans look closely at every clue. During a panel at FAN EXPO, Urban added more detail. He shared that viewers should expect “some big hits early on in the very first episode” on an emotional level. He explained that the show throws audiences “into the deep end” from the very start.
These are not empty words. When the actor playing the main character says no one is safe, it changes how fans watch the trailer.
A-Train Missing from the Season 5 Trailer Raises Alarms
The official trailer for The Boys Season 5 gave fans a lot to talk about. But one thing stood out to many viewers. A-Train barely appears in the footage. For a character who just joined the resistance, his absence is very noticeable.
Fans on social media picked up on this quickly. One fan wrote, “Respect to A-Train for finally making the anti-heel-turn into a good guy. I’ve found his arc one of the more fascinating.” Another fan simply said, “Bruh A-Train has less scenes in the trailer, feels like he might be cooked early.”
This is a common pattern in superhero stories. Speedsters often die first to show how dangerous the villain is. Think of Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron or Red Rush in Invincible. Fans worry The Boys is following the same playbook.
Jessie T. Usher Talks About His Character’s Dangerous Position
Jessie T. Usher recently spoke with SFX Magazine about where A-Train stands heading into the final season. His words paint a dark picture. He described his character as being “in the most vulnerable, most dangerous place that he’s ever been.”
Usher explained why things are so bad for A-Train. “He has no allies. He’s not really on the best of terms with The Boys. Essentially, he has made it known that he’s not going to be a puppet anymore, and he’s really just a one-man band.”
The actor also shared a surprising story about talking with showrunner Eric Kripke. After season 4 ended, Usher reached out to ask about the plan for his character. Kripke’s answer was not reassuring. “He literally said to me, ‘Honestly, we don’t know.’ We were all perplexed, like, ‘Oh shit, he’s backed himself into a corner with no way out!’”
When the person running the show does not know how to save a character, death becomes a real possibility.
The Comic Book Path Points to a Sad Ending
Looking at the original The Boys comics by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson gives fans another clue. In the comics, A-Train does not get a happy ending. He dies, and it is not heroic. Hughie is the one who kills him.
But the TV show has changed a lot from the comics. A-Train on screen is very different from his comic version. Show creator Eric Kripke and his writers turned a one-dimensional bad guy into someone fans actually root for.
Jessie T. Usher admitted he thought his character would die in season 2 when he first read the comics. “I was looking at the comics and stuff. I was like ‘This dude’s gonna die in Season 2,’ you know what I mean? Like, where else can he go?”
The fact that A-Train made it to the final season at all is a surprise. But surviving the whole show might be too much to ask.
Fans Predict a Heroic Sacrifice for the Speedster
The The Boys community on Reddit and other platforms has a popular theory. Many believe A-Train will die saving others. One fan suggested, “Saves them in the camp, dies in the process. Seems almost TOO obvious, but I’d imagine that’s how it’ll go regardless.”
This idea makes sense for the story. A-Train started the show as a selfish murderer. He killed Hughie‘s girlfriend Robin in the first episode and did not care. Now he has changed. Dying to protect the innocent would complete his journey from villain to hero.
Another fan pointed out that the show already confirmed major character deaths starting from episode one. “I feel he’s going to be one of them,” they wrote.
Vought’s Fake Story Hides What Really Happens
The show’s fictional company Vought International posted on social media in August 2024. They claimed A-Train was “being deployed overseas effective immediately.” They said they had to keep details confidential “for his safety and the safety of the free world.”
This is exactly the kind of fake news Vought spreads to hide the truth. In the world of The Boys, when a supe disappears, it often means something bad happened. The company rarely tells the real story.
Fans saw this post as another sign. Vought would not need to make up a story if A-Train was going to be fine. The cover-up suggests the character meets a dark fate.
Where Does A-Train Stand When Season 5 Begins?
By the end of Gen V season 2, A-Train had fully joined the resistance. He was working with Starlight ( Erin Moriarty ) and the young supes from Godolkin University. This put him on the right side of the fight.
But being a good guy in The Boys is very dangerous. Homelander ( Antony Starr ) now controls America. He puts dissenters in “Freedom Camps.” The resistance is small and weak compared to his power.
Jessie T. Usher told The Direct that he was surprised by how far his character’s redemption went. “To see him start to care about something else and make decisions because of that is, you know, it’s honestly a nice surprise even for me.”
That surprise might turn into tragedy when the season airs.
The One-Man Band Plays His Final Song
A-Train calls himself a “one-man band” now. He does not work for Vought anymore. He is not fully trusted by The Boys either. He stands alone against both sides.
This isolation makes him an easy target. Homelander hates traitors. Butcher does not fully trust supes, even the ones who switched sides. A-Train has enemies everywhere and friends nowhere.
Jessie T. Usher remains open to any ending for his character. He told ScreenRant at the Saturn Awards that he would even be fine with A-Train turning bad again. “It would blow my mind to see him make another turn back to the dark side, but it also wouldn’t be uninteresting.”
But Usher also admitted the writers “really steered him in the right direction towards the end of season 4.” Going back now would undo years of character growth. Death seems more likely than betrayal.
