A new trailer for the Peacock series Ponies is here, showing Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson as two women who become spies in 1970s Moscow. The show is a spy thriller with action and humor, following secretaries who work at the American embassy. Their lives change when their husbands, who were CIA agents, die. They then decide to become CIA operatives themselves to find out what happened.
The series will be available to watch on Peacock on January 15, 2026. All eight episodes of the first season will be released at once.
What Is The New Peacock Show Ponies About?
The story of Ponies takes place in Moscow in 1977. Bea and Twila are secretaries at the American embassy. In spy language, they are “PONIES,” which stands for “Persons of No Interest“โpeople nobody would suspect.
Their ordinary lives end when their husbands, who were actually CIA agents, are killed. The official story is that they died in a plane crash, but Bea and Twila believe there is more to it. They volunteer to work for the CIA, hoping to find answers. Their first assignment is not what they expect.
“We would like you to perform the duties of a secretary,” says Adrian Lester’s character, Dane, a CIA operative.
“I thought you had a real assignment for us,” Bea replies, with Twila adding, “We’re not gonna risk our lives to learn how to use a Xerox machine.”
The show follows them as they use their roles as secretaries to get close to powerful and dangerous people in the Soviet Union. They must work together to uncover a larger conspiracy connected to their husbands’ deaths.
Meet The Characters And Cast Of Ponies
The series focuses on the partnership between two very different women, brought together by tragedy.
- Bea, played by Emilia Clarke: Bea is well-educated, speaks Russian, and is the child of Soviet immigrants. She is more careful and follows the rules. Clarke is also an executive producer for the series.
- Twila, played by Haley Lu Richardson: Twila is fearless, outspoken, and comes from a small town. She often acts first and thinks later, which creates both problems and opportunities for the duo.
Clarke described their dynamic, saying, “Everything that Bea isn’t, Twila is. And everything that Twila isn’t, Bea is.”
The main cast also includes:
- Adrian Lester as Dane, the CIA operative who guides Bea and Twila.
- Artjom Gilz, Nicholas Podany, Petro Ninovskyi, and Vic Michaelis in other key roles.

Key Scenes And Action From The Ponies Trailer
The trailer mixes suspense, action, and funny moments. It shows that while Bea and Twila are new to spying, they are quick learners.
One scene shows Twila causing a small fire in a bar by accident. When Bea tells her she could have killed someone, Twila replies, “I didn’t know his coat was flammable!” Bea fires back, “Everything is flammable once you light it on fire!”.
The trailer also shows exciting action scenes, including car chases and moments of danger, as the women get closer to the truth. A key part of their strategy is using the fact that no one suspects them.
“We’re women, people only look at us if they want to have sex with us or marry us, and that’s it,” Richardson’s character says in the trailer. “No one would ever suspect anything of us.”
Behind The Scenes: Who Created Ponies?
Ponies was created by David Iserson and Susanna Fogel. Iserson, known for work on Mr. Robot and New Girl, is the showrunner. Fogel, who directed the movie The Spy Who Dumped Me, directed the series. They both wrote the show and are executive producers.
Another showrunner and executive producer is Mike Daniels. The series is produced by Universal Television.
Filming took place in Budapest, Hungary, which stood in for 1970s Moscow.
Ponies Release Schedule And How To Watch
