The first look teaser for the mythological epic Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, created a massive buzz online. But not all the reactions were good. Many fans and critics pointed out that the visual effects looked like a video game. They felt the VFX did not meet the high standards expected from a film with a massive budget.
Now, Yash, who plays the powerful role of Ravana and also serves as a co-producer, has spoken up. He directly answered the criticism in a recent interview. Yash confirmed that the team is still working hard on the visuals. He promised that the final movie will look much better than what people saw in the teaser.
Yash Calls VFX a Work in Progress and Promises Top-Notch Quality
Yash recently appeared on the Muse TV YouTube channel. The host asked him about working on a project that relies so heavily on computer-generated imagery. The host mentioned that the teaser visuals looked photorealistic. Yash laughed and took this chance to clarify the situation.
He explained that the visuals are not finished yet. The team is using the skills of DNEG, an Academy Award-winning British VFX studio. This studio worked on famous movies like Inception, Interstellar, and Dune.
“See, that’s where I think DNEG comes in. Namit, who is my producing partner, comes in with that expertise. So, the photorealistic visuals what you’re talking…and it’s still a work in progress. I’m sure it will be even more better with the finished product. We’re really aiming at a product which is top-notch.”
When asked if he has seen the final cut, Yash admitted that he has seen a decent version. But he stressed that the team is still working on it. They plan to keep improving the movie until the very last minute before its release.
He added that it is exciting to build something you believe in and watch it on the big screen. He noted that producers and actors do these big projects for themselves as well.
Hrithik Roshan Defends the Makers Amid VFX Debate
The criticism for Ramayana was strong. Some fans even called the teaser AI slop. But Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan came to the defense of the makers. He shared a long note on social media explaining the complexity of VFX.
Hrithik Roshan called the makers of Ramayana his heroes. He said they have the guts and vision to do what has never been done before. He explained that there is a difference between bad VFX and a specific artistic style.
“Bad vfx is if the movie promises say ‘photorealism’ but is unable to inhabit it fully. Even a small lapse in physics/gravity can then destroy the entire illusion. AND you can’t criticize the maker just cause he has chosen one style while you prefer another style. Thats not fair.”
He requested fans to be more aware when judging a film. He asked viewers to question if the style is right for the story, not just if it looks real.
